Steve Jobs: AirPrint has not been pulled.

There have been some rumors going about that Apple has pulled AirPrint from the final release of iOS 4.2. Apparently, a rumor came about yesterday claiming that Apple has axed the feature from the iOS 4.2 final release because of some unforeseen circumstances. Distraught by the speculated exemption of the features, a customer decided to shoot Steve Jobs a letter about it to get a further understanding of the matter. Steve replied saying that AirPrint has not been cut from the final version of the anticipated software update.

Customer: As a release-day purchaser of an iPad, I was elated when you revealed iOS 4.2 would support AirPrint. Now comes reports AirPrint support has been pulled from 4.2. Between announcements/assurances of the white iPhone, and now the pulling of AirPrint, is Apple going to lose credibility and become known for announcing “vaporware”?

Steve Jobs: AirPrint has not been pulled. Don’t believe everything you read.

There seems to be a bit of confusion as a few people have emailed us here at MacApper about the issue for a further understanding. As things are right now, the feature hasnt been completely axed as some have been lead to believe. More so, the ability to use printers shared through a Mac or PC didnt make the cut as people familiar on the matter state that the function has been ixnayed from the public release of Mac OS X 10.6.5. However, the ability to print directly to printers from an iOS device has not been exempted.

Apple has boasted that the AirPrint feature would allow people to print directly to printers or through shared printers via a Mac or PC. HP has been leading the way out the gates as they have released printers with software compatible with the iOS AirPrint feature. This has been the reason why Apple decided to put the shared printing functionality on the bench. Among the bunch, one claims that Apple hit a patent issue with the function and wont release the aspect of the feature until that issue is cleared up.
