Apple Releases Mac OS 10.6.7 Beta to Devs

Apple has released the new installment to the next update to the Mac OS X line. Mac OS 10.6.7 was released to developers with the build branding of 10J846. This new seed was released just days after the previous seed was issued.

Software has gained some weight, coming it at 35MB heavier the previous release. Nothing new with this one either, other than the areas of focus that Apple wants devs to target on: Graphics, AirPort, Bonjour and all that other stuff.

Just got word from developers stating that Apple has a new area of focus for them, which is none other than the App Store.

Microsoft Turns-On 30-Day Trials For Office 2011

Microsoft this week announced that they have launched 30-day trials for customers who want to try before they buy Microsoft Office 2011.

“If you’re still thinking about Office 2011, I’m happy to announce we now have a full trial available at www.microsoft.com/mac/trial, free to use for 30-days after download. We know it’s important for some of you to be able to test out new features. For those that will be trying the suite for the first time, we hope you enjoy some of the new items – Outlook for Mac, new co-authoring tools, Excel’s Sparklines, Dynamic Reorder in Word & PowerPoint, and more.”

Apple and News Corp Launching “The Daily” on Feb 2

The good folks over at The Loop have gotten the scoop that Apple and News Corp have sent out invitation to an event that will host the launch of “The Daily”, a new news medium that is tablet-focused and the iPad will host its debut.

As the invitations state, the event will be taking place at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City and Eddy Cue, Apple’s Vice President of Internet Services, will be there.

Apple Planning to Roll Out Photo Streaming and Other Social Services in iOS. [Update]

Beta 2 of the iOS 4.3 software update is here and developers are combing through the software to see what Apple has in store for the offical release. One of the interesting stand points that Apple seems to be taking is that the company seems to be planning to introduce some form of social feature for the iOS platform. It was already discovered that Apple is planning to roll out such features with the finding of the “Find My Friends” features found in MobileMe. The good people over at 9 to 5 Mac highlighted to two specific new features: “Media Stream” and “Photo Streaming.

FaceTime, Camera and Photo Booth Coming to the Next iPad

With the release of the iOS beta, developers are finding new things that are providing more confirmation on what Cupertino is planning to do with not only the final release of the “world’s most advance mobile OS”, but with future iDevices. Devs are now discovering the Camera icon from the iPhone as well as two new icons for FaceTime and an iOS version of Mac OS’s Photo Booth. Microsoft Brings First Office App to the App Store: OneNote

You may not believe, but Microsoft is one of the major developers in the App Store’s metropolis of applications. Bing, Windows Live Messenger and Sea Dragon are one of the many applications that Redmond, Washington has available for the iOS platform. Microsoft world renowned office team has decided to take strides into the App Store with the company’s first ever productivity mobile software for the mobile platform, OneNote. The company this week has announced that the application is launched in the App Store.

Apple Releases iOS 4.3: Beta 2 [Update]

Apple has released the second installment to the iOS 4.3 beta. This turn up seems to be rather quick with the first installment begin released just a little under a week ago.

Being that the build is fresh out the oven, there isn’t any word yet on what is new in the software. A bundle of new discoveries was found in the first beta that include the announced mobile Wi-Fi hotspots for both CDMA and GSM iPhones, allowing users to connect up to five devices at once. Another find was a little bunch of new Multi-Touch gestures for the iPad which allowed users to pinch to quit apps, launch the App Switcher Tray and video streaming for third party, and the ability to toggle the the function of the iPad’s switch.

Starbucks Mobile Payments for iPhone and iPod touch Now Nationwide.

Starbucks was one of the first to use the iPhone and iPod touch as a means to have frequent visitors of the coffee shops to pay for products. It started out in a number of cities, but now, Starbucks has announced that mobile payment on iOS devices are now nationwide. Customers can now pay for product at the well over six thousand brick-and-mortor Starbucks locations as well as the over 1,000 target locations as well

New Gestures in iOS 4.3

As profiled in one of our updates this week, Cupertino has added some new Multi-Touch gestures to the iOS software. One developer has decided to provide video of the new features in action. We also notice that Apple has update the rubber-band effect for when users scroll off the edge of content with a jelly effect.

“This beta release contains a preview of new Multi-Touch gestures for iPad. You can use four or five fingers to pinch to the Home Screen; swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar; and swipe left or right between apps. We are providing this preview before releasing them to the public to understand how these gestures work with your apps.”

iOS 4.3 Bringing Wi-Fi Hotspots (Update)

The longly dragged runoff of the iPhone coming to Verizon came to fruition this week. During the Verizon hosted event in the Big Apple this week, many things have been learned on the software side of things. One of the boldest features to be introduced to the new iPhone for Verizon was the addition of the mobile hotspot functionality. This new feature allows the iPhone to connect up to 5 devices at once to share it’s data connection.
