MobileMe Streaming Data From Individual Machines Instead Of Cloud

Jim Dalrymple of The Loop gave his two cents on the speculated MobileMe remodeling. He states that Apple may have different plans on how content is streamed to devices. He informs that instead of the typical cloud computing method, in which Apple would host all of the end user’s data on their servers and sends it on demand, MobileMe will serves as their driver behind the operation and use the user’s own machine fro hosting.

Apple Remodeling Notification System

Word in the Apple world is that Cupertino has plans to revamp the way iOS notifies you of updates to your applications. This aspect has been debated as one of the few weaknesses of the iOS platform that Android and webOS seem to have a better alternative to.

Researchers Demonstrate How to Get Passwords By Jail-Breaking.

Without a doubt, an iPhone, when jail broken, is one powerful and dangerous consumer product. To add proof to that statement, researchers in Germany demo how passwords can be obtained when the person jail breaks their device.

The Fraunhofer Institute Secure Information Technology showcased on the Internet  how a attack can obtain passwords “in 6 minutes”. An attacker would need to have physical access to the device and jail-break the software, method that allows a user to run code that is not authorized by Apple.

Apple Seeds GoldenMaster for Xcode 4.

As it was rumored on the Internet, Apple has released the GM (Golden Master) version of Xcode to both iOS and Mac OS developers. The new Xcode offers a major update to the development environment for OS X and iOS apps.

With every major release of Xcode, there is typically sole big software to accompany it. For example, when Xcode 3 came out, Mac OS X Leopard was released too. With the releasee of Xcode 3.2, Snow Leopard was rolled out right behind it. MacSfories made an interesting observation in noting that requirements for Xcode 4 is Mac OS X Lion. It seems like a error being that, as MacRumors made sense pointing this out, that their is no seeds for Lion on Apple servers yet and the description page indicates that the dev would need Snow Leopard for this. Mac OS X Lion is scheduled to released sometime in the summer.

Mac App Store to Replace Boxed Software at Apple Store.

Apple has been very successful with the creation of the App Store with the company just passing 10 billion downloads since it’s introduction. The App Store on the Mac OS X front seems to be on a very similar route. That being the case, reports are coming in stating that Cupertino is looking to replace boxed software at their brick and motor and online Apple Store with the in-home convenience of the App Store. Apple’s Personal Mac Setup feature in their retail stores seems to be perfect evidence that Cupertino will be making the transition sooner than later.

Apple Allowing Promo Codes in App Store on Mac.

The people over at MacStories have gotten the word that Apple is allowing promo codes for software being peddle through the Store.

“You can now generate promo codes for your Mac apps in iTunes Connect. These promo codes can be redeemed in any Mac App Store worldwide. For each version of your app, you can request up to 50 promo codes.”

With promo codes, developers can give out free software for reviews and other purposes such as giveaways, prizes, or marketing.

Posterous for iOS

Want to have a blog on the web?  Well luckily for you there are hundreds of ways to do such a thing.  One of these ways is to use a service called Posterous.  Posterous is an internet-based service that allows you to post updates to your Posterous blog via email.  Another way to send updates is with Posterous’s very own app for the iPhone.

Posterous for the iPhone sports a very standard user interface.  Once your blog is added, a list of your current posts is shown.  You can then add a post with images from your photo library, or by taking one then and there.

Apple Adds In-App Purchases to eBooks with External Purchases.

With the rejection of Sony’s Reader app this week, All Things Digital has gotten word, straight from Apple, on why the Reader application got the reject stamp. Reportedly, Apple has set no new policy, it just enforcing long standing one. Applications that offer additional pay-for content outside of the software must make it available through the in- app purchase feature of iOS as well.

iPad App Store Gets Filters

Cupertino has added some tools to help users find apps faster on their iPad. The new search tools is at the top of the search results page. Users can filter through the over 300,000 iOS applications. These filters include categories, price, release date, rating, and compatibility.

Another aspect that Apple has added I’m aiding users through apps is how purchased applications are displayed for people who have purchased apps, but they do not have them installed on your device. If you did not know, Apple doesn’t charge for apps you have already paid and installed on your machine. In the past when a purchase was made, the user could not clearly indicate of they have purchased. With the new tweaks in the App Store software, instead of seeing the “buy” button, users now see a “install” button to indicate that they have already purchased this item.
