There has been some complaint of flickering displays on certain television sets when using the Apple TV. Our friends over at AppleInsider has been informed that Cupertino is planning to release a software fix to remedy the issue.
“An Apple support representative has confirmed that Apple is aware of the issues caused by the latest update to the Apple TV, software version 4.2, AppleInsider has learned. The Cupertino, Calif., company is said to be working on a fix that will address the screen flickering problems for a small number of users.”
Apple TV version 4.2, which is actually a version of iOS 4.3, was released a week prior to the iPad 2 launch. The issue seems to lie with television sets the try to transition from the 720p high definition resolution to a 1080i resolution. With the software just released, users a reporting that flickering and flashing is being witnessed directly through the HDMI output and the HDMI to DVI converter output. Additionally, users are also reporting that the video output setting has been toggles to “Automatic” with a 480p res option. The new software update that Apple is working on, or has already finished, will rectify the problem.
