iOS 5 To Offer Major Voice Integration? iPhone 5 To Have LTE?
TechCrunch is chiming in that the fifth generation iPhone and iOS 5 will incorporate in-depth voice control features. Back in April of 2010, Apple acquired artificial intelligence group Siri. The initial purpose of the acquisition was once thought to help Apple enter into the search arena of the tech sector. However, Steve Jobs cleared it up at D8 that the company is not involved in search, they are an AI company.
“There not a search company. They are into AI. We really like what they do with AI.”
It seems like that the Siri group will get to show their talents in Apple’s next iOS software release as TechCrunch has uncovered information that states that the group will produce “deeply integrated” artificial intelligence and voice controls that will change the way that the iOS software is used.
“A year ago, Apple bought Siri, a virtual personal assistant startup that had released a very cool iPhone app. The Siri team and technology are now said to be a big part of iOS 5.
The use of Siri’s artificial intelligence and assistance technology is said to be deeply integrated into the OS for all the different services offered. And the team is now putting the finishing touches on the elements that will be demoed at WWDC, we hear. This tech may also be opened to developers for use in third-party apps – though that information isn’t quite as concrete.”
According to the report, a fall release of the next iPhone would allow Apple time to incorporate LTE 4G capabilities. The want for Apple to incorporate 4G technologies into the iPhone 5 may be the sole reason while the date of the iPhone’s release has been pushed back to the fall term of 2011 as opposed to the traditional summer release.
“TechCrunch contributor Steve Cheney (who nailed the timing of the Verizon iPhone last year), believes that a fall iPhone 5 launch makes LTE much more likely. He currently puts the odds at zero to ten percent for LTE if the iPhone 5 launched this summer (again, not happening), 50 percent if it comes in the fall, and 100 percent if it comes in January.
A fall timeframe would give Apple a more vetted and lower power Qualcomm chip for LTE, Cheney says. When the Verizon iPhone was unveiled in January, Apple COO Tim Cook addressed the LTE issue directly. ‘The first generation LTE chipsets force some design compromises. Some of which we would not make,’ he said. If Cheney is right, that may not be such an issue later this year.”
Apple waited to implement 3G technology until it was fully matured in the market, despite the fact that carriers possessed 3G networking in a widespread of markets. However, the iPhone’s debut back in 2007 was seen as something that would completely reform the industry, as they are now a large percentage of smartphone devices that replicate the iPhone’s concept. The release of the second generation iPhone, the iPhone 3G, proved that 3G technology was still a little under matured as the iPhone 3G hogged up huge bandwidth on networks the device was made available on. Four years in the making, Google and their Android platform has already made the venture onto 4G networking. That being said, Cupertino may not want to wait until 2012 to have a 4G device to present. Siri has a personal assisstant application on the App Store that is avaible for free. You can jump to it on the App Store by clicking the image below.
