Apple Released Mac OS X Lion: Preview 2
This week, Cupertino has released a new developer version of Mac OS X Lion. Mac OS X Lion: Developer Preview 2 is another installment of beta testing for the upcoming desktop operating system that’s due this summer. The new build is termed 11A419.
As of right now, the changes are currently unknown, but developers are combing through the software as we speak to uncover any new information that might be included in the software. Apple released an update through Software Update that addresses the Mac App Store that allows devs to update their apps. It was profiled recently that Apple was working on the golden master version of Lion and will be releasing it to developers. This build seems to be primarily for bug spotting in the software.
Apple Releases Mac OS X Update To Addresses Hanging Issue On MacBook Air
Cupertino issued a specific update to Mac OS X Snow Leopard that address an issue that some users of the 13″ MacBook Air have been seeing. Apparently, users have been experiencing frequent hanging issues when using the machine while using iTunes.
“This update addresses an issue that makes the system unresponsive when using iTunes.
It is recommended for all 13″ MacBook Air (Late 2010) users running Mac OS X v10.6.7.”
The update is clocking in at 461KB and requires a MacBook Air running the latest version of Snow Leopard. The issue has been experienced by large amount of users. Forum threads for the issue have been made in Apple’s discussion forum and tech forums on other websites.
Android Apps For Tablets Greatly Over-Credited By Apple
During the iPad 2 event back in February, Steve Jobs gave an interesting stat on the amount applications dedicated for Android tablet devices. In his presentation, he spoke on where the App Store stands among other platforms when involving tablet computers. Steve mentioned that the App Store is now home to over 350,000 applications, 65,000+ of which are tailored for the iPad, which is all-in-fact true. However, he said that the Android Marketplace houses somewhere around 100 apps.
“That compares to our competitors, who are trying to launch these days with at most 100 apps. And I think we’re being a little generous here. This is a huge advantage we have,”
IDC Sees Windows Phone On Top Of iOS In The Future?
Research firm IDC gave their input on what platform they think will be on top of the market in the next four years. According to the chart they have released this week, the research group says that Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform will have a greater market share than iOS. With the new partnership between Nokia and Microsoft, IDC believes that it will be the driving force to propel the platform on top, as Nokia says that they will not be embracing the Android platform that several other handset makers such as Motorola, HTC, and Samsung have been doing.
