Steve Jobs and MobileMe

MacStories is chiming in today with an anecdote that steps into the mind of Apple’s head honcho Steve Jobs for a bit. The story was made first available as an in-app purchase through the Fortune magazine subscription on the iPad (later made available on the web on print copies).

The story shares some interesting information about Steve Jobs and the launching of the MobileMe web service. Specifically, the article shares the reaction Jobs had to the initial bogged networks and downtime of the service.

Nike+ GPS Updates to 3.1

Nike’s running and tracking app just received a major overhaul with new features and a bunch of performance improvements.  Here’s what the update text says:

  • Control whether incoming calls will pause your run.
  • Select your preferences for Voiceover feedback, or turn it off all together.
  • End or pause your run without pulling the plug on your music.
  • Register or sign-in to Nike+ GPS with your Facebook or Twitter account.
  • Experience a boosted engine with improved accelerometer and GPS accuracy.
  • Challenge your friends to a new Nike+ Tag Game: Last to Run, where the last person to sync a run is IT.

IntoNow Updates to 1.2

IntoNow the amazing “identify what you’re watching on TV and share it to the world” app has recently updated to version 1.2.  Here is what they did:

[TIME] XFINITY TV Pushes Out a Quick Fix Update 1.5.2

Recently we posted an article talking about Comcast’s XFINITY TV app updating to 1.5.1.  Don’t panic! Comcast has shortly after released version 1.5.2 to fix an important issue.  This fixes the reliability of the Favorite channels setup and a fix for a potential loss of listing data.  There are also fixes for several crashes.  Be sure to update quickly for a much improved experience.

Amazon Makes Cloud Player iOS Compatible

iFans chimed in and gave some information on changes made with the Amazon Cloud Player. Among the changes, one of them was noted as Amazon making their Cloud Player software iOS compatible.

“While it isn’t quite as nice as an actual app, it provides nearly all of the functionality that you could ask for. Even the multitasking music controls work flawlessly. Sound quality is said to be ‘great,’ and the only part of it that is a little buggy seems to be the scrubbing capability”

New MACDefender Malware

Antivirus firm Intego announced that their is a new form of malware has spawned that effects Mac OS machines. The new threat is targeting Mac OS users through Safari. According to their observation of the virus, it appears that the threat is being deployed through JavaScript as a compressed ZIP file that is distributed through Google searches.

“When a user clicks on a link after performing a search on a search engine such as Google, this takes them to a web site whose page contains JavaScript that automatically downloads a file. In this case, the file downloaded is a compressed ZIP archive, which, if a specific option in a web browser is checked (Open “safe” files after downloading in Safari, for example), will open.”

iOS 5 to bring revamped notifications and widgets?

There has been a lot of talk about iOS 5 being that WWDC is around the corner. One of the things that has been mentioned that will be appearing in the new version of iOS is revamped notifications. One of the very few flaws in the iOS mobile platform is it’s notification system. Users have often found the pop-up notifications very obtrusive. The user has to stop and decline the notification before they can continue with what the were originally doing. Apple has long hired someone who created the widely acclaimed notification system on Palm (now HP) webOS. Apple has been encouraging the press to attend this year’s WWDC, being that the event has been heavily rumored to be software-only oriented. The company is making sure that media attendees do jot Take absence in the event simply because the next iPhone is not present. That being said, sources are expecting Apple to show some “breathtaking” changes in the software.

Mobee Magic Bar – Wireless Charging for Apple Keyboard

Just like the Palm Pre there is an inductive charging solution for your Apple wireless keyboard and magic trackpad.  Just replace the batteries in your keyboard with a special power cylinder.  The Magic Bar is powered by USB and is $59.99 USD and will be available in June.  There are some drawbacks to this product however:  It takes up another USB port on your computer and costs twice the amount of a $29 Apple battery charger.  Though still, instead of waiting for your batteries to charge you can now just slide it into the charging wand.  Check it out here!

Apple Creates the iAd Gallery App

Apple launched a feature in their iOS operating system designed to make viewing advertisements fun for the consumer and easy for the advertiser.  This feature is called iAd.  Recently Apple created an app for the iPhone and iPod touch called the iAd Gallery.  What does this do?  It allows you to view and save all of your favorite iAds.

iAd Gallery updates regularly to show you all of the ads on the iAd network from all of the popular brands.  Love a particular ad?  Add it to the “Loved” section.  You then can organize and replay your favorite iAds over and over again.
