10 Great Charities You Can Donate To Online and Why You Should

Isn’t it amazing that around the holidays it seems like everyone has their hand out for a donation?  You can’t give to everyone so how do you choose?  I say, go with your passion.  What charity really speaks to you?  Check out 10 great charities you can donate to online and why you should.

  1. secure.humanesociety.org: If you are a pet lover this would be a great charity to give to.  There are so many people that volunteer their time to help out with this great program.  Money is desperately needed to feed and get medical attention for all of the animals that come into the system.  But they do much more than care for the animals.  The Humane Society lobbies government to get stricter laws on the books in regards to animal cruelty, stopping animal testing and creating animal sanctuaries just to name a few.
  2. http://www.wish.org/help/donate: Make a wish is one of those fantastic organizations that just give you a warm fuzzy feeling.  They reach out to various organizations, celebrities, and many others to fulfill wishes for terminally ill kids.  Many of these wishes can be filled by the place requested by them donating something.  Like Disney donating a trip for a family with a terminally ill child, but there is also the expense of getting the family down there.  Maybe the child lives in Iowa and they will have to fly to Florida or California.  It takes money to do that and make many other dreams come true.  They need money just to run the charity.  Without this organization there wouldn’t be a lot of last wishes granted.  If you love kids then this is the charity for you.
  3. http://www.redcross.org/: It seems like 2011 was a big year for natural disasters.  We had hurricanes, floods, tornados and wild fires just to name a few.  Thousands and thousands of people were without homes and with nowhere to go.  The Red Cross is the first one on the scene to help victims after a major disaster.  If you were involved in a major disaster wouldn’t you want them to come help you?  They have had so much need this year that they are desperately short of money.
  4. http://www.cancer.org/: The American Cancer Society is probably one of the most well-known organizations in the world, but cancer is one of the biggest killers out there.  It doesn’t care whether you are 2 years old or 102 years old it will strike anyone at any time.  Great strides have been made to find treatments and cures for cancer.  Unfortunately, there is a long way to go before they find a cure for cancer.  But the American Cancer Society helps those that are suffering from cancer and are in need. If you know someone who has suffered with cancer this might be the right charity for you.
  5. http://www.handinhandforhaiti.com/: We all saw the devastation in Haiti after the earthquake that struck in 2010.  More than 300,000 people were killed in that quake and the following aftershocks. The people of Haiti lost everything and didn’t even have safe water to drink.  It’s been a tough year for them to rebuild.  Kids in Haiti are particularly in need after the earthquake.  If you want to help, check out this charity that allows you to donate directly to help one kid or you can help many.
  6. http://onbehalf.org/: This charity helps wounded soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan.  These men and women have risked their lives to keep us safe here at home.  If you believe in the cause and want to help them out in this way this would be a great charity for you.
  7. www.plannedparenthood.com: If you are interested in stopping the spread of AIDS and reducing the number of unplanned pregnancies in this country then you might want to choose to donate to Planned Parenthood.  They provide education for young people when it comes to sex.  They hand out condoms and try to advocate safe sex.  Not only to prevent unwanted pregnancies, but unwanted STD’s (Sexually Transmitted Disease) by using condoms.
  8. http://www.guidedog.org/: Guide dogs are dogs that are trained to help blind or disabled people live fuller lives.  These dogs come from many different places.  Some, they get from puppies and others they adopt from the pound.  It takes countless hours to train a dog to help a disabled person.  If you know someone who is blind or disabled and uses a guide dog this might be a great charity to donate to.
  9. http://ww5.komen.org/: Race for a cure.  That’s the motto of the Susan G. Komen foundation.  This is one of the largest and most successful charities around.  They have raised and donated over $1.9 billion dollars to the research and fight of curing breast cancer.  If you know someone who is or has suffered with breast cancer this might be the charity for you.
  10. www.salvationarmy.com: It’s Christmastime and the bell ringers are out there again looking for donations.  The Salvation Army collects money all year long, not just at Christmastime.  The money helps feed, clothe and shelter homeless people.  It provides toys and gifts to kids at Christmas.  They help with the elderly, missing persons and are working to stop human trafficking.  If you want to be a part of wonderful work like this then you might want to donate to this charity online this Christmas season.
