Like the others, PodTube is certainly a one-trick-pony, but it does its job with an elegant and simple interface, which I like. Also, probably the greatest selling points of the application is its dirt cheap price. PodTube sells for just $5.

PodTube by djodjodesign is a fairly new competitor in the growing market of applications that allow you to download flash videos (i.e. Youtube) to your iPod. Like the others, PodTube is certainly a one-trick-pony, but it does its job with an elegant and simple interface, which I like. Also, probably the greatest selling points of the application is its dirt cheap price. PodTube sells for just $5.

Downloading videos with PodTube is super simple. Just open the video you want to download from Youtube, Dailymotion, Myspace, or any other. Now open PodTube and click “Get video.” That’s really it. The video will be added to iTunes, from which you can add it to your iPod or export to a location of your choosing.

According to their website the version 2.0 – 2.1 changes include:

Now you can use any download folder in Safari (not necessarily the Desktop)

Dailymotion and Vids.myspace support, plus YouTube

Sleek new interface, with a simple, floating window

3 encoding quality levels

Dual / Quad core optimized encoding

FLV2 support

Ability to cancel process at any time

Remember settings

To see if this is something you might use check out the PodTube page for a trial version that is fully featured, but allows you to save just 5 videos.

Most games these days want you to have a disk in your computer to play. One reason is this keeps people from giving a copy of the game to their friends. This can become a pain and a major annoyance on long trips or anywhere where you can't reach your disk, and you have a case of Call of Duty fever.

If only there were a way to trick the game into thinking the disk was in the computer. Enter the Disk Utility, a little application that comes in the utilities folder of every Mac. All you have to do is pop your disk in, open Disk Utility, select your disk, and click New Image. Name the disk image and save it somewhere. Now all you have to do is open the disk image, and the disk will appear on your desktop, just like any normal disk. The applications will not know the difference between a virtual disk and the real thing.

Disk images also give you the ability to open multiple disks at once on a one-drive machine. You can even encrypt disk images to easily store your sensitive files. Also, while we here at MacApper do not condone any illegal actions, the disk images are yours and lack any digital rights management. It is also just as easy to burn disk images so you can copy your disks as many times as you want. Disk Utility makes it simple to back up the disks of your favorite games and have them on hand any time you want.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Tetris, I pity you. If you do, you will know that Tetris is awesome but old school. Now, I don't have a problem with old school, but it doesn't do the awesome power of the Mac justice. Enter Quinn.

Quinn is beautiful Tetris for your beautiful Mac. But Quinn not only has style, it has functionality. Quinn allows you to play against your friends over Bonjour, and it does so perfectly (I would show a screenshot, but I don't have many friends willing to play me).

Quinn allows you to send your scores to an online high score database. This means that you can show your friends your score and compare it to the scores of others (some of whom have made it to over 6,000,000 points). The program is even customizable allowing you to change backgrounds and block images. And Quinn is completely free.

Some think that IRC is a long dead technology. Some say its time has come and passed. Colloquy says no. Colloquy is a stylish IRC client that brings back IRC from the dark ages with a stylish interface and lots of great features including Growl support.

Colloquy starts you off with a small connections window that allows you to connect to any IRC server you want. If you aren't sure what you want, Colloquy has some suggestions in a drop-down menu. Once connected, you have to join a room. Colloquy gives you a searchable list of rooms right at your disposal.

Now that you're in a room, Colloquy gets you chatting. With your selection of window styles ranging from a nice, simple style, to an “iChatesque? look, to old fashioned look from the IRC clients of old.

With Colloquy, you can chat on multiple rooms on multiple servers. You can use emoticons and Colloquy is open-source and has plug-in support. Colloquy even allows you to have a buddy list of other chatters so you can find out when they're on and message them directly.

You can even set a search radius if you aren’t interested in driving a long way. Even if you aren’t in the US, enter your city and then put in your country under the state. Check out iConcertCal.
