Now that the iPhone has hit it big with consumers, popular websites are now scrambling to make mobile versions of their websites that work well with the iPhone. One website that recently went “iPhone friendly” is Facebook. If you are an iPhone user, you can access the iPhone version of Facebook here.

Honestly, the creation of this one didn’t make much sense to me considering Steve Jobs had promised to bring the whole wide web onto the iPhone. Why not just access the regular facebook instead of having a mobile version? Maybe it was the reason that loading a normal profile on facebook with a fair bit of stuff took eternity; double-tapping all the time exhausted the Opponens Pollicis (thumb muscles), and sometimes even logged me off!

Those were the reasons that forced me to try this new version out and eventually understand the reason for its origin. Warning: It may harm your traditional facebook experience and is not for the weak-hearted who can’t stand the “update status” on the left & search on the right side. If you like it that way, the iPhone version also works on the computer, but why would you bother when you have a huge display?

The most exciting feature that I found was the quick loading time. Mostly because it didn’t load all the apps on a profile at the same time, but broke them down so you may view the ones you want. Phew, no more waiting any longer! Moreover, another positive I saw was the organized way you can browse Facebook. You get a well organized bar right below a Facebook heading that can transfer you from Home to Profile to Friends and Inbox, including the subsections on all of them.

You get a well organized bar right below a Facebook heading that can transfer you from Home to Profile to Friends and Inbox, including the subsections on all of them.

This means that, with a single tap of a finger, you can browse through everything – no more double-tapping either! I previously hated accidental hits on other links, which resulted in going on a never-ending quest for apps. Additionally, a status button on the left side and a search button on the right side that I mentioned earlier provides quick and easy ways to bounce around. The only negative was the incapability to join groups, but how many times do you join one?

“iPhone Facebook” comes as another great addition to the many iPhone applications that are already available. Things are just getting better for the iPhone. What do you think: Does the Sun or iPhone have more things revolving around it?

Remember: If you have had enough iPhone, through the miracle of Yahoo Pipes, MacApper has an iPhone Free RSS feed.

You can’t IM on the phone!” became a ubiquitous saying all over blogs overnight. However, I was the odd one out since I’d already figured out meebo works the first day I got one. That discovery allowed me to be in touch with my friends wherever I was.

“Gah! You can’t IM on the phone!” became a ubiquitous saying all over blogs overnight. However, I was the odd one out since I’d already figured out meebo works the first day I got one. That discovery allowed me to be in touch with my friends wherever I was.

However, as all products are, it came with its own share of annoying problems. Slowly, more and more solutions came out, but none impressed me as much as this Indian company’s take on the IM problem, Mundu IM. Although I was reluctant at first since I was used to Meebo, my friend forced me to check it out and I’m glad I did.

Mundu can connect you to more than one IM client at the same time and signs you on much quicker compared to Meebo. That was good enough for me already. Another plus was that it made a really pretty animation to inform you of new messages. It used to “beep” when new messages arrived, but for some reason beyond my understanding, it no longer does.

The app is designed with the iChat-style of the iPhone, which makes it a lot easier to figure out how the conversation flows. However, like all web apps, you won’t know you’ve received a message unless you’re on Mundu. Note to self: Ring Apple and tell poor customer service representative on the other end to fix the iPhone’s multi-tasking abilities…

Mundu isn’t perfect; I wouldn’t advise chatting with more than 3 people at once since it becomes really hard to manage all your IM’s. Furthermore, green text on a green background makes it hard to read. If you have uncooperative friends like mine, who refuse to change their text color, then the user experience is really hindered. The service can sometimes become really slow, but this really depends on network conditions and other factors. Your mileage may vary.

Apart from the downers, I must rank Mundu at the top with easy switching to your several chat boxes, design and name. And hey, Moon-doo sounds pretty cool! Oh and it doesn’t work on your personal computer – trust me, I tried. To get chatty with your friends, head over to iphone.mundu.com on your iPhone.

Speaking of typing on the iPhone, here’s another reader question. How do you like the iPhone keyboard?

Since the arrival of Apple’s stylish iPhone, every user has found some kind of unique & creative way to make their iPhone more convenient. According to the Wall Street Journal, Robert Singer, a neurovascular surgeon, did just that. He alleges that last month he wouldn’t have had performed the right operation on the patient if it wasn’t for his iPhone; to reiterate, the guy would have died.

Now don’t get too excited thinking he used the iPhone as a substitute for one of the fancy whatchamacallits brain surgeons use, but in a way you could say it was similar.

Now don’t get too excited thinking he used the iPhone as a substitute for one of the fancy whatchamacallits brain surgeons use, but in a way you could say it was similar.

Mr. Singer accesses the electronic medical records of his patients through the Safari application, which was impossible on his former “best-bud”, the Blackberry Pearl. No offence to Blackberry, but Apple provides better Internet on its phones. Back to Robert Singer, by looking at the more updated record just prior to the surgery he was able to change it and save a life. Bravo!

He reports that, last month, he changed how he performed some surgery after viewing the patient’s medical records which had changed that day, just prior to the operation.

Dr. Singer actually bought the iPhone because it looked fun and he wanted to fool around with it, but it turned serious after his 450 annual operations improved thanks to the iPhone! Tell us if you have experienced some bizarre moment with your stylish new little friend.
