ImageWell 3.3: Leopard & iLife 08 Compatible
Big is not always better, and this holds especially true for ImageWell. The photo editing application has won accolades from both critics and Mac users; its strengths lies in its simplicity and intuitive interface.
Many of us have bypassed Photoshop in favor of ImageWell when it comes to dealing with simple imaging tasks. Free and fully functional, I think ImageWell might even qualify as a must have Mac application. What’s more, Leopard users can now be privy to its goodness.
Tidy Up 1.3: Keep Your Mac Tidy
System utilities may not be the most exciting part of your downloading regimen, but no one can doubt their importance. Tidy Up by Hyperbolic Software, ensures that your system is not clogged up by dupes and is a bonafied (or so it claims) “duplicate finder” and “disk tidiness” utility.
The latest version (Tidy Up! 1.3.0) has just been released and the most significant addition is its support for Leopard. Unfortunately, the new cosmetic advancements were lost on my installation of Tiger (hey not all of us are fast).
Remove the OSX.RSPlug.A Trojan
Question any Mac user about what kind of anti-virus program they use and the majority of them will answer ‘none’. A Mac under attack? That’s almost blasphemous, is the expected reaction. Unfortunately all is not hunky dory in the Mac Kingdom, and our precious machines may just be under attack. A piece of malware, dubbed OSX.RSPlug.A trojan horse, is doing the rounds and MacWorld gives some tips on how to disinfect your machine.
To check if you machine has been afflicted with the malware, check the top-level /Library -> Internet Plug-Ins folder, and look for a file named plugins.settings. If it’s there, then you got a bad case of the OSX.RSPlug.A trojan horse.
Mac Client for Eve Online, Trinity Cometh
There is a school of thought, which considers Mac And Gaming, nothing but a paradox. Even if we don’t agree with this statement completely we have to admit there is some truth to it. However here at Macapper we like to be the bearer of good news, so let’s talk about the latest development in the Mac Gaming World (yes it does exist).
Twitterrific 3 Released
Mac users who use Twitter may be familiar with Twitterrific, a Mac OS X client by the inimitable Iconfactory. Iconfactory recently announced an upgrade and those interested can point their browsers towards the Twitterrific homepage.
Twitterfic 3, like the previous versions lets one read and publish posts or “tweets” to the Twitter community website. The latest version boasts a more intuitive interface and also handles multiple sources of tweets in the list. If you’re a Twitter user you know you gotta have it!
New MacBooks for the Holidays!
Yes folks, it’s that time of the year where we put on our thinking caps and play the “what’s Apple going to do next†game. Rumors of a new and improved Macbook have been floating around for some time. Of course, there has been nothing substantial to back it up, but that changed somewhat with Leopard’s release.
Mac OS X Leopard includes a full set of drivers for Intel’s GMA X3100 integrated graphics chipset. Current MacBooks and Mac Minis use the Intel GMA 950 chipset. The Intel GMA X3100 is the new and improved version that the next generation of machines would presumably use.
