UPDATED: Keep Track of Your Spendings with Cents

LogoSome people have a hard time keeping track of where all their money goes. Cents, from MacMage, is a very simple application that helps you do just that! You can add different purchases to Cents and it will tell you how much you have spent. Cents is a very simple app, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t useful.

iCash: Review and Giveaway

LogoMy wife and I had been pretty happy with the copy of Quicken that came with our computers. All that changed a few weeks ago, when she told me that Quicken was no longer sufficient for our needs. As she is a professional accountant and I am just a writer, I didn’t question her. So started the search for a new finance program/service.

MacHeist Retail Bundle Unboxed

MacHeist LogoIt’s here. Finally. You’ve heard the rumors, seen the video, now purchase the retail bundle. Available online for a limited period of time, the bundle contains 12 apps at a bargain price of just $49.

As usual, the MacHeist guys have done it again, with a bundle that consists of finance software, a word processor, an organizer as well as a handful of games for your Mac. Yea, lovely games.

YummySoup Video and Giveaway

LogoRecently at MacApper, Emily did a comparison of YummySoup! and Connoisseur. Since HungrySeacow Software has given us three licenses to giveaway, I thought I would outline a few of my favorite things in YummySoup! with a video tribute.

One of the features that sold me on YummySoup! was the Automatic Import feature that supported the heavy hitters of online recipes. I’m not one to create a recipe, but I definitely know how to mooch. Thus, recipe management software that can automatically import is a must.

Google Notifier: GMail and Calendar Notifications on Your Desktop

Google Notifier IconDebates and arguments have always been brewing with regards to desktop versus web apps. While one camp will argue about convenience and having your data available everywhere, the other will side with speed, privacy and reliability that desktop apps can provide.

While I seriously doubt the holy war will end anytime soon, here’s an app that will provide some middleground. It’s called Google Notifier for OS X.

Lostify: Gotta Tag ‘Em All!

Lostify IconMost of us probably rip DVDs from time to time. iTunes can be a very powerful metadata tagger, but for some of us, it is just not powerful enough.

Yes, iTunes has many information fields that you can fill out, but there is still much more information that it does not let you add. For these, there is Lostify.

Lostify is a simple Metadata tagger for M4Vs (videos) and M4As (audio files), the perfect companion for Handbrake. It lets you fill out MCAA rating, Actors, Directors and every other piece of Metadata that iTunes can handle. The best part is that it is free!

Relationship: Getting Along Has Never Been Easier

Relationship IconLet’s face it: relationships are complicated things. Between keeping track of personal details, remembering dates, communicating efficiently and more, it’s a small wonder that we manage to get along at all.

And that’s just with personal relationships — what about professional relationships, where sometimes the extent of your contact with an individual is a series of digital transactions?

Jumsoft jumps to the rescue with an update to one of its award-winning pieces of productivity software, aptly named Relationship. This little gem is a piece of customer relationship management software geared towards the small business market. With its attractive price tag and competitive features, it’s easily established itself as a staple of the consumer corporate world, and the 1.1 update brings only improvements to the tried-and-tested formula for success.

SugarSync: Now in Alpha For Mac

SugarSync IconiDisk used to be the most efficient online file service on the Mac platform, but a new competitor seems to be looming on the horizon. SugarSync allows you to get your files from virtually anywhere.

Previously only compatible with PC and mobile devices, the folks over at SugarSync announced today an alpha release for Mac. SugarSync allows you to upload your files to their service, and then access those files from anywhere with an internet connection and a browser.

Dear MacJournal, Today I Reviewed You

macjournal_iconSimply put, MacJournal is a tool for journaling and capturing notes. But, MacJournal is more than just a diary. Features such as PDF and image support, password protection, encryption, tagging, full screen mode, and a publish to blog feature make MacJournal a versatile application.

The interface will be familiar to most users. You create a new entry, type the information you wish to capture, and format it as desired. A sidebar displays your various journals, should you want to classify entries under different subjects. There is also a calendar to review entries by date.

One .Mac Account to Rule Them All

Mail.app IconFor most of us, we have and use different identities. Some of us may have one identity for friends and family and another identity for freelancing and so on. With all these identities, we need a way to bring them all together into one.

I have four email accounts that I use the most, which means I have four different mailboxes that I check often. When using mail.app, the left sidebar of your mail.app application can become a mess with all of its folders. I decided to figure out a way to make my four mailboxes, one.

Punakea: Take Charge of your Files with Tagging

PunakeaNow that we’re all settling in with Leopard and getting used to the “300+” innovations, it’s becoming painfully obvious that one innovation still lacking is a simple and convenient way to manage all the files lying around on your hard-drive.

Sure, you’ve got the improved Finder and Spotlight to work with, but wouldn’t it be nice if there was a magic word that could whisk you out of the Finder’s strict folder-based hierarchical structure?

SuperDuper: Now with Leopard Compatibility

SuperDuperOne of our favorite apps for backing up here at MacApper is the always handy SuperDuper from Shirt Pocket Software. Now, it’s even more super-duper (sorry, I just had to), with a brand new version.

The highly anticipated (if I may say so myself) update brings one of the largest missing features up to this point: full Leopard compatibility. Now I really have no reason to keep putting off those backups of my hard drive nightly.

Version 2.5 of the award winning software is fully 100% ready for your Leopard-equipped Mac. The combination of bootable backups along with file backups from Time Machine can surely be the end of fear of lost files or computer crashes.

Leap: A More Natural Finder?

LeapWith the release of 10.5 Leopard, Apple enhanced the Finder with smart folders and Coverflow eye candy. Unfortunately, Finder is still the same old Finder when it comes to navigating through folders and finding files. Spotlight continues to improve the finding of files with its ability to index file information and content, but its display is limited, as is the ability to filter search results.

Leap, from Ironic Software, is a new Finder-like application for finding files in a more natural manor. What isn’t Leap ? First and foremost Leap is not an extension or replacement for Finder or Spotlight, but actually a utility to enable a greater depth of search when seeking out those hard to find files.
