Who here uses Twitter? I'm usually right on top of these Web 2.0 trends, but I've long resisted Twitter. The big appeal of Facebook is that I'm in college, and just about everyone I know uses it. Twitter, though, none of my friends use. I have a few business associates that have accounts, but I'm not really sure what the appeal is. Some say it's a great place for conversation, but it seems like a forum would be more useful for that instead of a weird string of random @ conversations.

So, please, open my eyes to Twitter (or validate my belief that it's a waste of time).

I am on FaceBook. Was on Pownce but got out of it. One is enough for me... Maybe even only one is too much.

I just know of the song by the Traveling Willburys -- Twitter and the Monkey Man. :glare:

Nope not a member. Have a Pownce account. But really never go there. Only opened it because several people on one of the forums I frequent had opened an account. Practically never go there. The forums are more than enough for me. (I have about a 1/2 dozen or so I frequent with some regularity.) And you get pretty much immediate feedback.

Well the appeal of it is that you are connected to people not just in a regular "oh hey dude whats up" on facebook, but in a way that they get a little peek into your life.

You say, dude, guess what, I'm watching Lost right now. Hes like, "oh i've heard so much about it should I start watching it?" But you wouldn't have that kind of conversation on facebook.

It's a way to connect to other people's daily life. But.. if other people you know don't use it I guess it can loose it's purpose.

It's also a great place to connect with people you may not know, but may be fans of or want to know. A lot of people in tech and showbiz use it right now. It's fun to both get a peak into their lives, and you can ask questions to them directly via Twitter. You can also use it to get news updates like you would on rss, but in a more direct fashion, from the people as opposed to an organization.

It's also something you kinda have to try before you get into it. It takes a little bit for it to click, but if you can find a few people you know or know of, you'll start to see the light eventually.

P.S. Handle: mediaright

I've been using Twitter for a few weeks now. It's great for keeping in touch with friends in a very casual way without having to take the time to compose a lengthy e-mail or get pulled into a phone conversation or even update my MySpace/Facebook profiles. I can just send a tweet that says I'm writing at the library or that Scrivener rocks my world, and anyone who's following my Twitter entries knows I'm still alive, but the nature of the entries shows I'm working so they probably shouldn't expect to hear from me beyond my tweets for awhile.
