I took my 4-year-old out to see his first Blue Angel demonstration. The airshow isn't until tomorrow and Sunday so we couldn't gain access to the flight line, of course, but we found a much better view ... practically right under their flight path! We were right across the freeway from the airport. Yes the photo is aweful, but it does show just how close they were. I may take my 8 and 6 year-olds to the same spot tomorrow instead of fighting the crowds at the airport.

Hey thats cool. We live near 2 airfields (Point Cook/Laverton and Avalon - actually that 3 but 2 are almost side by side) and when ever they have air how we get lot of pre air show fly past stuff happening.
I actually had a flight in a Mustang for my 40th. It was fantastic!

You could say you had them ..."plane sight"

The local news is now reporting that the section of road I was parked on yesterday will be closed today. So I guess I'm stuck enduring the crowds in the 92° weather at the airport. Oh well, it'll still be fun!

Is the road closed for traffic or everything? I'd see if you could still walk down there.

That's a great shot!

I saw the Blue Angels back in 98 after they'd gone to F18s. They're amazing.

For a different view, here's a Van Halen music video from the 80s, featuring the Blue Angels. The flying is simply amazing. Enjoy!

Sadly, being the biggest "Van Hagar" fan ever, I know the song and video well. The song was "Dreams" and those are A-4Fs the Blues were flying back then. BTW, the last year they flew the A-4 was 1988, after a tragic loss in Niagra Falls. Their first year with the Hornets was 1989.

Oh, and also, the Van Halen album 5150 was, IMHO, the best album Van Halen ever produced and the associated concert tour was their very best, as well!

Here's one I shot today...
