HELLO EVERYONE!

TANNER'S HERE!
(Thunderous applause)

Nice seeing some familiar faces again, that's for sure!

Not much has changed with me.
Still live in Michigan.
It still has the worst economy out of all the states in the US.
I still can't get jobs.
Nobody else can't either still.

Same!

I'm happy to be here!

Thanks to MHC and to the admin who disabled the captchas so I could register. Noticed before and after I registered, the number of members increased greatly. lol

You scored 24...

You are ERNIE
You are fun and popular. You are a real crowd pleaser. You have probably been out on the town your share of times, yet you come home with the values that your mother taught you. Marriage and children are important to you, but only after you have fun. Don't let the people you please influence you to stray.

I did it twice because so many answers were a tie:
You scored 30...

You are ELMO
You are cute and everyone loves you. You are a best friend that no one takes the chance of losing. You never hurt feelings and seldom have your own feelings hurt. Life is a breeze. You are witty and calm most of the time. Just keep clear of backstabbers, and you are worry free.
You scored 39...

You are BEAKER
You are sensitive and romantic. You work hard and dedicate a great deal of your life to helping others. You are a friendly person whose shyness sometimes gets mistaken for ignorance. You are liked by everyone who spends time with you but find it difficult to make new friends. In romance you sometimes need to be reminded and pushed in the right direction. You are very logical, this sometimes makes you look straight and boring but once people get to know you your intelligence and wit show through.

MaDDoG

You scored 29...

You are GONZO
You have a giant nose, a nose so big that some call it a deformity. You are a well balanced individual who enjoys a little bit of everything. Your varied lifestyle can sometimes cause dilemmas especially when your desire for a pleasant family life conflicts with your urge to party. You are constantly organising your time to ensure social events don't interfere with family time. You are a career person with goals and targets. Your goals often change as the wilder side of your personality tells you you're bored. You like stability and security but often worry that you are getting tied down. You are prone to making impulsive decisions that impact on your career and family life. As you age you find the focus of your life shifting from party animal to family builder.

Hi guys! Welcome to MacApper.

This place is about to go under major reconstruction and forum rules have been re-written but haven't been posted yet. This reconstruction is due to be done around mid-July or so. And the whole website will be upgraded, including the main page with the app reviews.

You'll find that a lot of things look wonky in the forum pages and stuff, that's because the skin isn't compatible with the latest version of vBulletin (3.7.1) and needs to be changed since the skin is no longer updated.

The basic human decency rules apply here, don't do to others what you don't want to be done to you. We don't intend on being ultra-tight and stiff on the bad word filter, we just ask that everyone use their brains before hitting the submit button.

If the forum becomes a sewer then we will have to use the bad word filter and start restricting word usage.

So basically, it's all up to us, you see. And since this place is just starting, it means it's also up to us to build it.

MacHeadCase
06-18-2008, 04:46 PM
Oh and in case you guys are wondering what the main page looks like, here it is (http://macapper.com/).

How to get there is a small link at the bottom of the forum pages, on the right hand side. This will be changed in the redesign as the link will be more obvious.

"When I went to my parents in NS, when I got home, my dad handed me a big MUG OF RYE. No coke, no mix, JUST RYE! Because that's what I want after a 10 hour flight, a pint mug of RYE."

I suppose an intro might be in order now that I'm out from the shadows. I'm Jenn, and contrary to a lot of you here, I'm not a refugee from any other Mac site. I made the switch from PC to Mac last November, and now I do everything in my power to avoid having to run VMWare Fusion or even think about PC apps.

I'm a writer -- both non-fiction and fiction -- and I'm constantly playing with new writing/notetaking apps. My yak shaving activity for the week is to learn the ins and outs of OmniFocus before my demo expires to see if it'll actually keep me on track or just be another way of deluding myself into thinking I'm on track because I'm working so hard at it.

Nice meeting everyone!

Thanks for the welcomes! I heart my Mac. The only things I still do PC-wise are writing/tech editing non-fiction projects (because of the publisher templates; fiction writing is done in Scrivener and NeoOffice). For everything else, I've been completely assimilated into the Mac collective. I had to help a friend with her laptop PC last week and it took me a minute to realize why the two-finger scrolling wasn't working.

Just out of curiousity, what is the history of this forum? I remember reading MacApper's RSS feed pretty regularly until the whole debacle with "Malcor", when I really lost faith in it and a few others. I never realized MacApper had forums until now.

MacHeadCase
06-29-2008, 07:34 PM
Well we found the forums in a state where it showed no one cared for them much. Riddled with spam posts and not cleaned up. I think MacApper is foremost the main page with the apps reviews. Forums come in second.

Yeah I hated the Malcor episode. Found it very distasteful that's when I decided I would never buy another MacHeist bundle. I thought the name MacApper was familiar till I found a thread on it after I joined. But I was looking for a forum and saw Kelly here (he's Ghostshadow "over there") and I joined just to PM him and then I decided to stay.

Not sure I would have stayed had I found the Malcor thread right smack at the beginning though.

Well, the Malcor episode is now behind us (I wasn't actually let in on the "secret" until a day after the front page was "hacked").

In hindsight, it probably wasn't in the best interest of the site to participate in the MH promotion, but there was never any harm meant to our readers.

Hopefully we can find a place in your RSS reader in the future :)

No harm done - I was just disappointed at the time. Of course, now that so many of my online friends are here, I see this place in a whole new light :)

It's really telling of the atmosphere of this place to see that people like MHC, Mathogre, Kilted1 and so many others, too numerous to count, have all flocked here. Hi, I am a digital photographer-photoshopper, heavy into manipulation from converting a photo into an oil, water, sketch etc. I had spent many years developing skills to attain the above. I found that the key to such achievements within Photoshop is the use of filters. I found that Buzz Pro, Impressionist, virtual Painter and Mehdi were essential for such a transformation. www.pbase.com/koyote11.

For many reasons, I decided to make the switch to Mac. I was very disappointed that none of these plugins nor Mac substitutions are available. It appears to me that one would have to indulge in steep learning curve software like painter to achieve such an end. I heard the propaganda, that Mac works circles around Pc with image work. But in this area, I strongly disagree. How can Mac owners work photoshop to create art pieces. Sadly, it appears that PC has the corner in this area. Please prove me wrong. JM

Hi I am new to the mac world and like it so far from NY . Anyone ever had this problem if so what did you do? or do I need to take this to Mac directly? Any help will be appreciated

Hi all,

I am NEW to the mac.

It has so many WOW's to it.

I live in Florida and really want to "hook up" with

experienced Mac users to help "teach" me mac.

I got so enthralled with Mac, I have 2 Power Mac's,

Ibook, and now a Macbook Pro!

Is that CRAZY or what? :w00t:

MacMarine

Hi "Z",

I too have a G3 that I got at a yard sale for $10.00.

I took it to my computer guy to check it out.

I am NEW to mac's too (about 4 months now.)

Here's My suggestion to you: Use what you have to get familiar with

the Mac.

Heck, I jumped right in and got 2 PowerMac's,

(Towers),Ibook (all G4's),Macbook Pro and the G3 Imac.

Found all on Craigs list!

I am in awe at how they are.

Maybe look for a MUG Group in your area. ( Mac Users Group)

Most of these guys/gals are Fantastic with help.

I know that is NOT really answering your question however. LOL

Hi All,
I'm new to the site but not to the Mac. I do have some issues though and could use some guidance. I will post those in a different thread.

Looking forward to learning and perhaps even being able to help others.

Thanks,

Hey... the new guy here. I just bought a PowerMac G4 QuickSilver.
I noticed that After I've dragged new applications into the dock, or rename the "home" icon, then restart.........the changes I,ve made are always gone. I checked the 3.6 battery level on the motherboard, it reads 3.0.
I don't think it's the battery, it doesn't seem that weak. Any ideas anyone?
I'd appreciate the advice.

Hi from Ireland,

A cold dry night 7 celsius here!

I just bought a new 17" MacBook Pro the one piece aluminium machine to replace my other 17" one (2.4Gig, 160HD + 4gig ram bought in mid 2007.

Why? - because I'm a gadget man and liked the idea of a bigger HD of 320Gig and an 8 hour battery????

Just did a search for Mac forums and found this one - looks OK so far!

Look forward to interacting.

Anthony

My name is Juelie and this is the first time I have posted to this group. I used to belong to an "on-line" group years ago that was dedicated to iMacs. Can anyone tell me where is the best place to post my first question:

Recently my old iMac (graphite from 1999) would not start after a huge power failure here in Bozeman, Montana. I was able to retreive what was on my hard drive, but no one here seems to know the "old" stuff from OS 9. I had the old iMac HD contents placed on my G5. I have been unable to find the data that was stored on my "OS 9 note pad and stickies". My old iMac was able to start up in both OS9 and OX 10.4. I know the data must be stored somewhere, but can't find where.

Thank you for any assistance anyone can give....

Juelie

Hello, My name is Korey. I was a long time windows guy and had the typical "windows is superior, mac is a toy" mind set. Of course I had no exposure to mac. I fell in love with the iphone but it wouldn't work with exchange so when 3g came out I was at the apple store several times before the release looking at the 1st gen iphone. The podcasts and radio shows I listen to have a very high regard for macs and infact think they are superior and more powerful. While I was in there I had a chance to play with the mac computers. Those two things combined I decided to get an iMac 24" and give it a shot. I can always put windows on if I needed to. I was blown away with the whole thing. It just worked, right?

Well the imac lead to a 15" unibody macbook pro. My fiance sat next to me for months and watched how awesome it was so I handed that down to her and got a 17" one for myself. I worked over our IT people at work and talked them into letting me buy a 24" iMac for work. Now I'm on nothing but macs. I'm spreading the word and everyone I talk to says I have a passion for this stuff. I hope to write about mac at work. Its a fantastic platform but doesn't blend with the windows world as nicely as it could. There are many programs that dont exist for the mac yet. I think it will all change in the next several years as mac popularity grows.

I live in Tualatin Oregon, near Portland, have 2 kids and a fiance. I work full time for a company that manufactures equipment for paper mills.

Hi everybody!

My name is Marissa Meli and I'm a new writer with the site.

I just graduated from college after finishing by BA at Harvard and Northwestern Universities. I live in Chicago and absolutely love it. I'm trying to make a career out of games journalism. I'm also a writer and evening editor for thebbps.com. The editor-in-chief also writes for the site...hello Jim Squires!

I first got into Apple when I was 12 or 13 and got a first-gen iPod. I am the spawn of a hardcore PC loving family made up of a lot of programmers so I am a bit of an outlaw.

I am seriously hoping Apple makes a game console next generation, although I wouldn't bet my life on it.

I am super-friendly, so send me a message anytime!

Hi! I just joined the site as a writer! I'm going to be a senior next year at Harvard College, studying History of Science, and the Ancient Near East. Right now I'm living in Cambridge, MA, although I'm originally from Gloucester, MA (apparently America's oldest seaport!).

I always grew up with Apples; my parents loved them, and so I guess it's genetic? I love the interface, the ingenuity, pretty much everything about them.

I'm really excited to be writing for the site, so it's going to be fun!

If you want to know more about me, just message. See you on the blog!

I just got a MacBook Pro last week for college this year, so I'm still pretty new at everything, but I'm always willing to learn!

Thanks!

I have a question: I purchased "plug-in suite 4 for my macs and after installing it on my notebook pro I found out I could not also use it on my G5 pro. I use them both, one in the studio and the other on assignment. I am only on one machine at a time. Is there anyway anyone know that I can activate these plug-ins of both of my machines??
Thanks, Debbie Lynn

Howdy folks,

Not really sure what the hell I'm doing here. I'm kind of thinking this is just an intro page, but here's my issue...

I'm running 10.4.11 and all of a sudden, a few weeks ago, my computer just decides it doesn't want to download torrents anymore. I mean, I can download the torrent file, but then when I drag it into Tomato Torrent, it just times out.

It's KILLIN' me... pleeeeease, any suggestions would be massively appreciated...

Thanks
