Over the next few days i will be adding in some forum rules and some other items in here but for now I thought we could introduce ourselves and welcome new members.
I'm Miles, 32, a Canadian living in Bangkok. I am a new switchover from Windoze/Ubuntu and the happy new owner of a 17" MBP. In my spare time I do webdev/programming, surfing, travel, and mess around with OS X.
:)
Hey, I'm Kiro. I've always loved Macs. I currently use an 2.0GHz iMac G5 and a 12" Powerbook for mobility. I love to write, blog, and photograph. I hope you have an awesome time here!

Hello everyone. I'm Sid, 26, from the St. Louis area.

Hey, I'm Justin from Montreal. I'm enjoy Photography (http://flickr.com/photos/justinlaramee), Hockey and Apple products. I'm currently using an iMac G4, but I plan to upgrade to a MacBook Pro after the WWDC.
Hullo, John, a Brit living in Switzerland and totally taken in a few years ago by the Apple experience since being given an iPod 3G and using iTunes for the first time. I am living proof of the halo effect.
I have been through a few generations of PowerBooks now, waiting for Leopard to arrive to see if some new hardware is going to drop at the same time.
Spare time is mostly devoted to my growing family and my new Nikon D40.

Hello to all,
My name is Michael and I am a new Mac switcher in March 2007. I have a 15" MacBook Pro, and I love it. I practically do not go anywhere without it.
I am a NetAdmin for a small municipality in Alabama. I have been married since 1995 and I have 2 wonderful kids (boy 4, and a 1 yr old girl).
I originally started my computing career on the Apple IIe, then to a Mac Classic, LCIII, then a Power Computing PowerCenter 120 [yes, the clone Mac]. I have now come back full circle with my MBP.
I also blog on productivity, specifically Getting Things Done by David Allen (http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Things-Done-Stress-Free-Productivity/dp/0142000280) at Black Belt Productivity (http://www.blackbeltproductivity.net/).
Look forward to meeting a lot of people.

I've been programming since I was a kid, and started out on the Apple II. I've always been crazy about games (not just computer games) and really only learned about computers to write, play, and design games. The fact that very nearly all my useful job skills were acquired in the pursuit of games is ... ironic. It's also very sad that the Mac did not end up becoming a dominant gaming platform.
I used to contribute to Australian Mac User (I'm an American who grew up in Australia and now lives back in the US), and have been designing games (paper and computer) for twenty-five years. I've worked as a desktop publisher, multimedia developer, game designer (yeah I actually got paid to do it for a while), management consultant, and, lately, web developer.
My current favorite toys are Cheetah 3D (which needs to be reviewed on this site) and Unity 3d (which needs to be reviewed on this site).
My day job is web development for a large advertising network.
For fun, I design and play games, read, hang out with my wife, clean up after our cats, etc.

Oh I notice Michael Ramm is from Northport -- about 20 minutes away from me. Roll Tide!
Incidentally -- I am anything but a switcher -- I've been a Mac user since 1985. (I gave up computers after studying Comp Sci and then saw a Mac demo in 1984. When they gave the presentation I snuck out to use the demo Mac in the lobby and was hooked. Luckily, I was a math student and our Math department immediately went 100% Mac -- turns out Mathematicians love being able to typeset their own work.)
I do have over fifteen years of Windows development experience, but at no point have I ever preferred Windows. 3D Studio Max is an amazing program though.

BTW, what do you like and don't like about Flickr.com? Curious why you went with Flickr for photo hosting and storage.

Hey everyone
I'm David, and currently in Canberra AUST...
yes the national capital of Australia is Canberra not Sydney.
Saw decryption's post about this site in Mactalk (I'm also a regular over there) and thought I'd take a look. Like what I saw - so decided to register.
I've been using Mac's now for about 3 yrs - and still love it!
Have switched more people than I can remember now (yes not only did I become one of the enlightened - but I like to convert others too!!!!)
I'm normally non religious (apart from my addictions to toys, gadgets, and anything Mac now), am love the community vibe with Mac's and am happy to keep learning and maybe help others out along the way.

Jaysen, systems/network engineer at a fotune 500 manufacturer in upstate NY. Went form an SE30 in '88 to a IIci to a IIfx to linux (kernel version 1), windows and Solaris. My wife bought me a MBP 17" which was dleivered Tuesday. My life is now much better.
Although my primary occupation is as a computer nerd I am also a studio musician and songwriter. Started using ProTools on that IIci when I was ... younger ;) My plans for the MBP are
1) colapse 5 worstations onto one kick butt laptop
2) get out of traveling to the studio
3) have a system that doesn't require constant work to keep running (i do this all day, tired of doing it at home).
Some things that I think I can offer to the Mac community at large
1) I have a lot of cross platform experiance (look at me post on WAP access)
2) I have a lot of platforms available for testing fixes.
3) I subscribe to the "right tool for the job" mentality meaning that I believe that there are somethings that are better on other OS. Yet I still choose a Mac...
That pretty much sums it up.

Hi, I'm Matt. I live in Brooklyn, NY, and I'm a Web Manager for a large university health care network in New York City. I am originally from Indianapolis, and moved to New York just over a year ago.
I've done freelance music and entertainment writing for over 10 years. I also hosted a weekend overnight radio show for about 10 years.
I'm an Apple Fanboy in denial. I hate to admit that I drank the Kool-Aid years ago, but I guess it's true.
I'm looking forward to contributing and meeting cool folks.

I also have a blog (http://www.v00.org/), a web development and hosting company (http://www.ni-on.com/), as well as an online store (http://www.goodymine.com/).

Hello MacApper Team!
I am 26 year old bohemian bum from Cumbria, England. I switched from Windows to OSX in January 2007.
I am currently using a sexy little macbook and eagerly awaiting my copy of Leopard in the mail.
I am fan of photography. Although after checking out some of the flickr pages already posted here, I am ashamed to post my own (http://www.flickr.com/photos/thedharmablues).
My dirty secret is a year before getting my macbook, I convince my then girlfriend that it was an awful idea for her to get a mac because I was concerned about compatibility issues. I was young and foolish. I now secretly love the fact that she and her new rockstar boyfriend are missing out on the joys of OSX.
I write for a music blog called weheartmusic (http://www.weheartmusic.com).
And that's pretty much my autobiography to date.

I feel at home already.
My name is Andrew Daley.
My Mac experience comes from my current position at a university in Canada. Currently I am the Assistive Technology Coordinator. Mainly I help those with disabilities use computers to level the playing field in an academic setting. Part of my job is to research software as it relates to students with disabilities. Unfortunately, most of what I do is focused on the Windows side of thing because of the lack of development on Macs for assistive software (which is changing by the way). My work machine is my personal Macbook with Bootcamp installed for beta testing of Windows assistive technology. My first love is the Mac, which is a good thing considering that the majority (now) of students here at this university prefer the Mac; including those students with disabilities. Most of my time is spent researching the latest and greatest on both platforms.;)
Hey guys...new to the forums but not to Macs. I been reading this blog all year and just decided I may as well introduce myself.
Interests include: hacking iPhone/AppleTV, *nix, video production, scuba, traveling, photography.

Hey guys,
I'm Chris, from Toronto, Canada (which means if I'm a little negative against the iPhone, you know why). I became a Mac user in April 2006, and haven't turned back since. My first iPod was the iPod nano (2nd gen), which I got in Feb 2007, and recently purchased an iPod touch, and have resisted to jailbreak it; I am waiting for Feb 2008, when official 3rd party apps arrive.
Anyway, I love the blog, and am starting to get involved in the forums :)

Ni hao, Sawatdikra(p). Shane here, traveling as usual.
My first Mac was a Powerbook 170 back in 1998 or 1999. Moved on to a Powerbook 5300, then a Lombard, then a 400Mhz purple iMac. I really liked that iMac. Moved on from there to a used TiBook (current), and added a 1st gen Mac mini. I mainly do audio work, and text work, on these, but enjoy some video experimenting too. Music is almost always on somewhere, usually Van, some form of lounge/lo-fi/deep house, and some nice canadian alt-rock. Am living north of Miles it appears, in China, but central asia in general is my home.
Currently I am toying with Pownce.

Merry christmas people, my name is Kim Visnes, and I'm from Oslo, Norway. It's a bit cold up here right now, and I'm getting ready to go home from the cabin. Anyway, I've been using mac for a couple of months now. My personal one that is. I've been using macs on and off for a couple of years, but just recently started getting into the whole mac thing. :P
So my first mac is a black MacBook of the new kind released back in November with everything at maximum (except for the ram, only 2, not 4 GB). Ever since switching, I have turned on my stationary Windows PC a grand total of 5 times, and that's only to get files from it. :P
Next up I'll be getting a MacPro, which I can't wait for. :D

I'm Opal Tribble I made the switch to Mac in October 2006. I'd been avoiding them for years. Although I liked them, I was afraid to try a new OS. I came from a Windows technical background. Once I made the switch, I was happy. My only regret is that I didn't switch sooner.

I've coded the famous "Image Resize" application for OS X, most of my skills are self taught. I am also the founder of the Mac OS X Archive project, Mac OS X Archive.com (http://www.macosxarchive.com)

01-31-2008, 06:45 AM
Hey out there, I'm Jonas Wisser. I'm a student at Oberlin College, where I work as a Resident Computer Consultant and Help Desk Consultant- specializing in Macs, of course ;-). I've got a fairly broad knowledge of all the operating systems, though, and I like playing with computers generally in my free time.
I actually got my first Mac when I left home for college- before that, I was stuck with the family desktop. 64 MB of RAM and Windows ME. This may have something to do with my enduring love of Macs, with their higher-end hardware and tendency to, you know... just work. Currently, I'm working from a G4 Powerbook, but I built a desktop this January that I'm going to turn into a Hackintosh as soon as I'm done with my Linux from Scratch project.
Can't wait to get involved with MacApper!

I have been using Macs since my first computer, an LC II, but between then and now I have worked with Windows, Linux, BeOS, and a number of other Operating Systems. In addition, I have worked with everything from software development to graphics to desktop publishing and advertising.
This looks like an awesome community and I'm excited to be a part of it.

In my spare time, I love roasting coffee and writing.

I've been a Mac user since 1984. Currently I'm a motion graphics artist and video producer/editor.
If someone can direct me to the answer to this question I'd be grateful... sometimes when I download a torrent for the mac it arrives as a zip file, but when I unzip it it becomes a Windows file named "setup.exe." Do I have a setting wrong?
Thanks,

Hi I'm Garoolgan, an almost 25 year PC vetran but one look at Vista last year and I started saving for a Mac.
Unfortunately the Mac landing hasn't been all that peaceful as I'm having all sorts of problems, mostly with dates. The machine itself is fabulous, much faster than any PC I've ever had. I'm a mix of Nationalities and I live in yet another country = France. I had to do a special order for my MacBook Pro as I wanted a QWERTY (English) keyboard and English OS.
Apart from that I live with my wife and our little dog Vik (a Coton de Tulear) in Nice on the South Coast. With 25 years of PC computing I'm rapidly heading for what is called here the "third age" though I don't feel quite that near death yet.

Hello to all! I've just joined here, this forum looks like a lot of fun and hope to contribute quite a lot in the near future.
I've used Macs since 1996: my first mac was a Mac clone, a PowerComputing PowerCenter 150 Desktop.
My second was a second hand iMac Grape but the analog board fried and bought myself a sexy 17" widescreen 800 MHz G4 iMac.
My third is this one, a 20" iMac 2.1 GHz G5.
I've been a member of a few Mac forums. And now I'm here. :)

Hello ,
I just found this forum and so I joined. I have used Macs only since 06 but I love what they can do . I have a 20" iMac and my son uses a 17" and a Macbook all running Leopard.
I live in Norway... and yes I do wear kilts on occasion

Our national day 17th May was cold and wet it even snowed. It was a weired day weather wise.
I started a Photo blog project. Just me and my cellphone one picture of a moment in my day for a year. No Fancy cameras just my HTC cell and me.. Oh yes and oodles of talent :tongue_smilie: :tongue_smilie:  Only joking I think I'm a bit pretentious.. you can decide that one

MacHeadCase

Do you mean the ad blockers work? I haven't been there nor checked in a while...
Edited to add:
Been there just now... I used a double-whammy to block those stoopid ads, it would make the navigation in there crawl. Not a good idea when you have to be alert for spam and stuff. SafariStand and Saft and all I see is a very wee-small word Advertisement with a very small triangle next to it. By golly, I have thwarted them ads. :rasberry:

Hey all,
My name is Peter, also known as "Pace" on a number of fora, and I've (apparently) joined the MacApper staff.
Been using a Mac since I received an iMac in 1999, and only truly started to use it with OS X. Also, I'm a Law student.
As a means of saying "hi", I've come to adore patting and feeding my Leopard, far more than I ever did with my previous big cats.
MacHeadCase
05-25-2008, 10:06 AM
A big welcome to you Peter! Hope you like it here! :)
Oh and Brussels... Are you a Brit working there?

Student, so not working quite yet. Been here for sixteen years though ;)
MacHeadCase
05-25-2008, 10:34 AM
Whoah! Must be lovely there! What are you studying in?
I'm trying to remember if I knew any "Pace" members in the forums I've been a member of...
Peter Craddock
05-25-2008, 10:42 AM
Law. Fourth year, by the way.
I've mostly been active on AmbrosiaSW's boards, I was on Spymac as "pacemusic", I am on MacHeist, MacThemes, and YouWriteOn. There, I think that's it for my "active" places
MacHeadCase
05-25-2008, 10:46 AM
Doh! Sorry! I had forgotten the Law Student in your first post in here!
Interesting though. Is European law pretty much all the same from one country to the next if you are studying in another country than your own? Unless it is International law you are studying?
Oh what happened to SpyMac is a real shame, I hear. I never joined there (when I lurked, it looked a bit too rough for my tastes), but the place went downhill at some point and last time I looked at the main page, it was like a soft pr0n place. Ewww.
Peter Craddock
05-25-2008, 10:55 AM
Nope, it tends to differ on many aspects and greatly. But then, when the EU enters the picture, things tend to interact much more.
But I'll be specialising in EU Law next year, which isn't as nation-focused ;)
Re-Spymac, it went Web 2.0 way too early, and "Spymac classic" (for all of us who weren't interested in posting our home-made stripping videos and earning money by getting the most views) stayed around for a while, until the editorialist left and all of us followed.

05-25-2008, 06:38 PM
Greetings and Salutations!
I'm mathogre and am new here today. I was refered to MacApper by MacHeadCase, a friend of mine.
I'm a mathemagician, working in air traffic control research and development. I used a first generation Macintosh in 1984 at work. It was an amazing piece of equipment back then. My first personal Mac was a refurb MacBook that I bought in January 2007. After some hardware issues, I replaced it with a new one in November 2007.
I discovered Linux in 1997. When OS X came out, the Mac had my attention. To me, the Mac user interface and multimedia capabilities on top of a Unix environment seemed the perfect combination. By 2006, I'd become weary of Linux and thoroughly hated Windows. Enter the Mac. Is it perfect? Fwiw, my wife has remarked more than once that I don't swear at my Mac, and I can assure that I'm a "tough audience" when it comes to computers.
For recreation, I play with math. At present I'm playing with the traveling salesman problem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traveling_salesman_problem), with the hope to handle moderate sized problems on my Mac. I'm programming it in Python (http://www.python.org/). I have a wife (almost 24 years), daughter (approaching 10 years), and guinea pig (over 2 years). I enjoy reading and have rediscovered photography in the last year. I play Dungeons and Dragons every couple of weeks (and have been playing for only 3 years).
I know a few of the folks around here, and hope to meet lots of new folks here too! This looks like a good forum. ^_^
Best regards,
Mathogre

Meh, we get that about once a week to add to our picnic. Cheeseburgers. Those aren't actually that bad to do though. I hate doing other things more. like grapes... those are annoying.
