I hadn't messed with my Vista machine in over three months. I was planning on selling it but since no one really wants to buy a barely-used laptop I decided to keep it and install Ubuntu on it. So now in my house there are two Macs and two Ubuntu machines! It's great to be completely Windows-free!

I don't think I could go Windows free even if I tried. It's just too much a part of my life. But congrats to you for doing it. :)
Ubuntu, eh? I always thought it was pretty ugly compared to all the other Linux distro's, but hey, if you like it, that's all that matters.

It would be impossible to be Windows free here as my computer and network job is mostly Windows systems and I need to keep up with things in the Windows world. Also I like Games a bit and that is really a Windows thing and I do not want a PS3 or XBox at this time. It would be nice though if I could!
Otherwise I use OSX for everything else and even for a lot of the job part also.
Ubuntu is probably the most friendly Linux out there and seems to have very good hardware support compared to most every other distro I have tried recently. I really need to find more time to mess with a few Linux distros like the latest Ubuntu, Open Suse, Slackware (one I have used for many years).
Those are my favorites John. I first started with Red Hat 12+ years ago and then went to Slackware and used it for many years.

I had Linux XP once a couple of years ago. Liked it.
Have multiple Ubuntu CDs.
Once I install, it never works. I'll go to boot up Ubuntu and get a bunch of weird characters on a blue screen saying something about the graphics.
Haven't tried it in a while, but I got it with both PCs I tried it on.

Haven't tried it in a while, but I got it with both PCs I tried it on.That stinks. I've installed 8.04 on two Windows laptops now and, minus a few things I have to work out regarding my wireless connection and printer through my Airport Extreme, they both work flawlessly. One of them I bought just after XP SP-1 came out and the other I bought with Vista this past November. (The very machine that pushed me to Apple!)I like Linux, but I wouldn't give up OS-X for it.
