Hello all. I'm Jamie Diamond. Some of you may know me from the MacApper podcast, but I'm now MacApper's director of development. I'm really excited to tell all of you that we're currently developing MacApper 3.0, a revamp of not only the site design and functionality, but also of a lot of things behind the scenes, like how we write stories and how we review apps.

I don't want to give away too much, but I think it's really going to catapult MacApper into the big-leagues of blogs. No release date yet, but we're hoping to have something ready to go by early-mid August. My question to all of you is, what do you want us to change/fix? If you were running the show, what would you do?

P.S. MacApper 3.0 will also bring a special section we like to call "iPhoneApper". :)

Well I would like to know how this affects the forum. From your post, it seems only the Main Page are involved in this unless I am reading this wrong? If it does involve the forum side, what is management ready to do? Fix the skin? Put in a new one?

There will be a few new boards and a new skin.

Ok, sound good. We had talked about adding new forums earlier in another thread in the Scene and Site News.

Let's see what others have to say about it.

As far as the main page is concerned, I have seen a few articles that were mostly acting as cheerleader for some apps: I count on reviews to guide my purchase choices. I think that if that is addressed, MacApper will be even better.

We're on it. :)

First order of business is to get a skin that is compatible with vB 3.7x...right now a lot of the functionality of 3.7x doesn't work correctly.

After that adding "forums" to the actual 'forum' is no big deal other than to decide what to add. I'd suggest not making a huge list of forums as it gets hard to navigate. And iPhone forum would be nice although there are forums all around that are dedicated to iPhone. Maybe an "I hate AT&T" forum would be good (j/k). :)

I'd suggest that the MODS put their heads together and decide what forums to add, merge, or delete rather than have a design by committee situation which is almost always messy.

Anyway just my 2¢.

Don't worry, we're not designing by committee, just getting ideas. Steve Owens and I will make the final choices.

Just wondering, why don't the forums work properly with a PSP?
Doesn't matter that much to me, it just seemed odd.

And, all of a sudden I notice a "+" in front of 2 usernames in the who's online bit of the main forum page. It's only in front of 2 (iRye and BlueBell) and not the rest of us.
Never noticed that.

Just some weird questions which....are weird.

LOOKING FORWARD TO THE REDESIGN, THEN I CAN FINALLY GET RID OF THAT BORING "SENIOR MEMBER" THING.

I already know what it's gonna say, i've been planning it for a long time.
But when the redesign comes it will mean less...

Not sure why it's being weird on PSP. A lot has to do with the browser on PSP and how well VBulletin works on it.

The reason there is a + sign next to a users name in the "who's online" is becuase that member is on your "friends" list.

I noticed that the user profile is working more vB 3.7x like. Not sure how that happened but something has changed. Still there are issues related to the current skin not being update fully to the new vB version.

Yeah some admin/IT guy obviously came in to add things or tweak them but nobody told us forum staff this was underway. I just noticed this added stuff myself a couple of days ago. So we don't know more than regular members.

So don't ask us mere mods, ok?

Why can't they just find a 3.7x skin and reinstall it so that everything works properly all at the same time? This is a little annoying to be honest.

Now mid-August? Where is my cat? Or here it is...

Guys, this stuff takes a while. This site is newer to Escalate, and it's not like their team had tons of free time before. We've had to-do items for the forum techs for a while to patch a few things up (we can't make sweeping changes because it's a custom theme and none of us made it. It was crafted by a pervious owner), but they take their time sometimes. On the push-back, I've always said that mid-late July was optimistic. We're trying to hold you guys over best we can, but since we share a design and tech staff with a number of other sites, things are going to take a bit longer. That's just how it is. In the meantime, Steve and I are working best we can to keep things at-least working here until then.

Tanner, I added you as a friend.

I understand this should take a while... Mid August is really good.

The new version of the site is near...very, very, very, very near.
