Helloooo,
After years in the Microsoft Wilderness im now the proud owner of a MacMini and a MacBook Pro - I'd like some basic help to get me going pls!

Firstly, can I create a wireless home network between them to transfer data without buying more equipment?
Secondly, can anyone suggest a cost effective way to record my Sky+ on my MacMini?
Lastly, my PC anti-virus software isn't compatible with Mac, so what software should I invest in to protect my new equipment?

Much Obliged!

Pre-Firstly, welcome!
Firstly - yes, file sharing between Macs and PeeCees is very straight forward, you need no more hardware/software than you already have.
Start here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1812
Secondly - clueless about Sky+ here...
Thirdly - you need no virus protection on a Mac, there are no viruses to protect against. Seriously. Look at ClamAV, a leading 'anti-virus' program for the Mac. The only signatures in its database are for Windows viruses that might, under certain circumstances, be transmitted through a Mac, but they can't impact a Mac.
This ain't Windows! Enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome AND the advice - Now that my Macmini and Macbook are talking to eachother I can start undoing years of windows conditioning!

On Sky+ - your easiest way is a Elgato EyeTV hybrid. As you have Sky+, im guessing you are from the UK - so it's about £100 (http://store.apple.com/uk/product/TK658ZM/A?mco=MTIxODk3Mw)
You simply plug in the break out cable in, then use a scart to 3-pin composite lead - connect them up, and use the included (and excellent) EyeTV software to do the recording. EyeTV then allows you to chop and change the program, removing ads etc.
Hope this helps - and I know you said cheap - but this is probably your cheapest option!

Thanks for advice,
I looked at that model and others but I eventually opted for the Miglia TVMAX, it cost abit more but its worth it, as it converts whatever I input (Sky, DVD, Video, Audio etc) in a flash and makes it available to watch straight away - plus the design fits nicely under my Mac Mini, which is always important

But alas, my Mac adventure has hit another snag (i've started another Post to hopefully get some help!) My wireless internet was working perfectly the first day I set it up, and when I awoke... :scared:

Any ideas?

Cheers

Best thing to do with wireless is restart everything! Turn it all off, then back on!
What is the specific problem - will you MM not connect, or is the wireless itself not working?
