This is looking more and more legit and I think it's obvvious Apple has been headed in this direction all along. I just want to say that all of us guys overseas starved for Western movies, TV etc. will likely fall all over ourselves renting. $2.99 for a flick for 30 days, hell ya! I watch most movies only once anyways. Free iPod video podcasts are like the only reason I don't mind long taxi rides in Bangkok anymore.
TUAW talked about it again today (http://www.tuaw.com/2007/09/13/more-rumors-about-itunes-movie-rentals/).
I imagine the DRM hackers will find a way to rip these protected videos and that's a whole other can of worms. Would you guys rent movies/TV on iTunes, or are you hellbent on owning the content?

For me it depends on a few things. In this order:
1. Quality
2. Multiple viewing limits
3. If iTunes will support multiple monitors (aka MacBook hooked up to huge TV)
We'll see how things turn out.

Ben, iTunes is fully compliant with spanning monitors-- in other words, if you have your huge TV hooked up to a MacBook, you can drag the viewing window where you want it (as in the TV) and watch it there.
Alternatively, you can "sleep" your MacBook with the huge TV hooked up by closing the lid, then wake it (using your remote, for example) without opening the lid-- Front Row will appear in the attached display (aka "huge TV") and you can proceed as normal.
Well, if you look at the current iTunes movie price of $10, it's not much more than $3 and you get to keep the movie. Plus, I feel the less DRM the better, hackers will always find ways to rip movies. Even with full DRM you can set up a screen recorder that records sound and there you go! Most other rentals go for a 24 hour period as much as you want to watch. I'm not quite sure how'd they make that work mobile. I guess through the same system as the computer/device authorization
I personally think it would be too much hassle for Apple to "rent" movies. But that's just me, since you want it, I hope they do it just for you!
I wish you could just rent the movie, straight from Apple TV, and then you can watch it on your television. Then at least Apple TV will have a good feature, making it a worthwhile purchase.
Ah, a wise idea indeed. If they could pull it off I think it would make a market for having the AppleTV even without owning any other Apple products or iTunes. Obviously you want to have at least iTunes on a PC or Mac, but still, it would make the AppleTV a "stand alone" type product.
And it will work like the Wi-Fi store, and will sync back to the Computer so you can have a copy there.

Now that would be nice, better then buying that movie rental hookup for $400 (it's something I saw somewhere...)

I would love to rent movies on iTunes. I just got my iMac hooked up to my sound system and TV. Also with all this new video content on the internet at a low cost or free, I could see a lot of people starting to cut their cable or satellite off. I know I am seriously thinking about it.

Yes defenitely, I would love to be able to, as long as it's legit though. This guy at my school downloaded a movie, I think it was Zodiac. Well anyway, they somehow traced it back to him and their suing him for 250000$ WOW The worst part is he barely downloads movies and the time he does that happens.
I wish him best of luck!!
