Hey, I just bought this computer from a guy I met. I've had it for about a month now but I don't have the administrator password. Unfortunately the guy moved to the states and I don't have his phone number. Can anyone help me get the password, change it or somehow make it so I am the administrator.:scared:
Many thanks,

  Couple more things, my computer is a: Mac OS X Version 10.4.10
Also, someone tried to help me with it and told me to press "apple"S when the screen starts up. That doesn't work! - I think it has somekind of "open firmware" software. Well at least, that's what someone suggested.
thanks

I would just save your data and start from scratch. Create a new admin account of which you know the password! You'll need to insert an OS install disk and reboot. Then choose Erase and Install.

If the previous owner set an Open Firmware password, and if you can't get the password from him, then to my knowledge your only recourse is to buy a new motherboard, or take it to an Apple Authorized Retailer to have them reset the O.F. password. The reason is that Open Firmware is set on the boot ROM of the motherboard itself, and cannot be removed, even with a reformat of the hard drive.
The reason you could not boot into Single-user mode using Command-S is because part of Open Firmware disables any startup keystrokes (including Command-S) until the O.F. password is entered.
Also, if your Mac is Intel-based, they no longer use Open Firmware architecture--they use something called EFI, or Extensible Firmware Interface. The same suggestions above apply, however. Best to have an Apple Authorized Service person take a look at it--that is my advice as an Apple Authorized Service person.
