Saw this a few days ago: http://digg.com/apple/Mac_OS_X_Leopard_10_5_a_May_2007_release
So does this mean if I buy a MBP this weekend I will be looking at a $200 OS upgrade in only 2 months or less? Say it ain't so. :O
yes, thats what it means.

Wow that seems really unfair. They really don't have some type of rebate in situations like this? :uhh:
Then again I doubt Microsoft did either for the guys who bought XP right before Vista was released..

Well, I'm not sure about OS X, but if you buy a Mac right after they announce the product (so buying between shipping announce time and release time) they usually give you a discount (this worked for me with iLife, I'm not sure about OS X)

The same thing happened to me. I got a discount on Panther when it came out once we bought a Mac. I'm sure it will be the same this time.
I got iLife 06 for free cuz I bought my computer right before it came out.

another development just arises. Digitimes just announced that apple is going to significantly delay the release of leopard to september to ensure bootcamp compatiblity w/ vista. why not just sent a software update on september instead of delaying the entire os. my take? it's bull and doesnt make any good strategic decision. http://urltea.com/1u9

speaking of discount, get a ADC student discount for 99 bucks here in the states and you can save more than 600 bucks on mac pro just once in your lifetime. the terms and the amount of disc. definitely varies depending on the region where you live. you also need to be at least 18 to join. I already used up mine. :(

I think it's kind of hilarious that compatibility running Windows would slow down the next build. I mean isn't the reason we use a Mac because we don't really need Windows? Anyways, it's obviously a strategy they are employing on purpuse to promote switchers, and it seems to be working! Good for them.
Good link Yohannes.

Apparently there are progressively a lot of mac semi-switchers (folks who still cant let go of windoze for whatever reason) and apple is trying to make them happy. if they are happy, then they are very much likely to recommend mac to their windoze friends. but i still do think the story is full of crap.

The Leopard release will coincide with the iPhone release in very late May or early June (read WWDC). This conviently coincides with the re-opening of the Atlanta Apple Store (says the manager), which is how I know all of this.
