Corona Radiata from the newly released NiN (nine inch nails) album : Slip

This album is really good and it's also free! They released slip shortly after ghosts. http://www.nin.com to download. It's under creative commons license.

MacHeadCase

Oh yeah this reminds me! I downloaded a couple of NIN tunes that the group wanted to see fans tweak in GarageBand. It was a project I wanted to undetake to see where I would go with this.

I'm sure I have them somewhere... Must be on one of my backups?

Kelly
05-20-2008, 02:27 PM
I remember that project. They are still letting people remix all of their songs. The new songs are up for remix too. http://remix.nin.com NIN is really leading the way of the digital realm. I think it is purely awesome, they are so open with their music and allow you to tweak it, use it on your projects, and share it. I really think they benefit from doing this, it make me want to go to their live shows even more. That's just me though, it just really get's me pumped up!

We used to have a commercial classical radio station around here with the call sign WGMS. They were actually a viable station, and played an excellent mix of music. (Recently someone bought it and turned it into a rock station.) The "on air personalities" were intelligent and entertaining. One of the recording of Shehrazaze they'd play is the one I now have. Of all of the recordings I've heard, this one is the best.

It's out of print. However, a friend pointed me to ArkivMusic, which is where I purchased the CD:

My hometown. Charles Dutoit has left the orchestra's direction now though. Kent Nagano has replaced him.

Grand Funk Railroad: I'm Your Captain / Coser To Home

Brings back memories - Back in Boot Camp (Navy, over 35 yrs ago), they let me form a band from the recruits and let us play during Chapel. This is the first song we played. With a bunch of sailors to play to, needless to say, we brought down the house.

Whoah! Bob cool story! So you play an instrument? Or sing?

bobtomay

Played and tried to sing back then.

Learned 13 instruments. Incl'g piano, organ, accordian, guitar (acoustic, 6 & 12, pretty much just a rhythm player), major was French Horn (though I learned all the brass except trombone), banjo, recorder (in college)...

Singer: am a bass (very low range - can't even hit middle C and B flat is tuff on me - have no falsetto at all) and ruined my voice trying to screech out rock 'n roll. Should have left the singing to others. Today I bite - absolutely terrible tonal quality for any solo work, but can still carry a bass line in a group (as long as they don't mind me dropping it 1 or 2 octaves :)).

Jethro Tull: Aqualung

last one was

Argent: Hold Your Head Up

Not familiar with him. Looks to be pretty technically proficient on the bass though.
Am familiar with very few musicians after about '89 - '90. Got into other things that precluded my keeping up with the music scene.

He played with Weather Report. He went solo, had his own band, played with Joni in her more jazzy period along with Don Elias and Wayne Shorter.

Now Weather Report I know.

Know who Wayne Shorter is, great sax player, although not too familiar with his stuff. Have never really been that much into sax.

I really dig alto sax, not so much baritone sax and the like. And I'm sure you know Joni. ;)
