OMG both of you guys make me realize Skitch has an image hosting website now? Oh dear...
That could very well be an interesting solution to this problem of mine (http://macapper.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4998#post4998)...
Is it a free service? Does one need an invite to use the service? I have the app over here and use it for quick and dirty image editing for troubleshooting posts.
Kilted
05-24-2008, 11:49 AM
If you need an Invite Diane I can send you one
MacHeadCase
05-24-2008, 11:54 AM
Oh so we do need an invite to get the image hosting because I do have the app here... Although it might not be the latest version, not sure on that. But heck if the image hosting is free and I need an invite, I would be really happy to get one, if you can spare one. :)
Kilted

I think you should update. When I first got Skitch it came with the hosting
Haven't you got the little webpost button in the lower right hand corner ?
I just take my pic click the button and bingo. You go to the hosting site
version 1.0b6.1

Ok I need a tutorial here. How do you post a smaller pic that links to the bigger pic, bob? Skitch does this automatically or do you create two images, one for the smaller size (that you post here) and one for the bigger size (link embedded in the smaller image)?
Kilted
05-25-2008, 08:50 AM
Skitch does it automatically
MacHeadCase
05-25-2008, 09:19 AM
Dang! I have Skitch to host it: I click on webhost then upload and it takes me there... Then I select copy the link to the clipboard by clicking on Direct URL. And I get the image I get such as above in here.
What should I be doing instead? Unless the type of URL is the key here? I kept the default i.e. A Secret URL.
bobtomay
05-25-2008, 09:22 AM
Yeah, I experimented with all of them.
When you're on the skitch page, the one at the bottom that says 'Forum' is the one we used. And you don't need to use the 'insert image' function using that link either. Just paste it into your post. I forget (after all it was a couple hours ago, you know senility and all) which one did the full size image.
Give 'em all a try. That's what I did. Just experimented with each of the skitch links editing my original post until I found the one I wanted.

Hi everyone! Here's my latest desktop. Wallpaper was taken by me earlier in the month with my Canon PowerShot G9. It's the Nubble Light House in York, Maine. We took a trip up north earlier in the month for family business, then took the scenic route home.
Btw, I hope it is okay to post desktops this way. I reduced this from 1280x800 to 800x500. If it's too large, please let me know! I didn't see anything in the rules about image size, but figure this shouldn't be too large.

Nice ones, Peter and MO!
And MO if you use Skitch, you can use it to host your image and use the forum link thingy like I did. It automatically shrinks the image in your post while linking to the full sized image. But 800 x 500 is ok, I would think. It doesn't break the forum page layout on my end anyhow.

Thank you MHC! I'll have to check out Skitch once things settle a bit more. At present I'm cleaning from recent chaos, which also includes a complete reinstall of everything on my Mac. In a nutshell, I'd accumulated much application junk on it, and it was beginning to interfere with my ability to program on it. Things are *mostly* done now.

This is my favourite, Turner's Fighting Téméraire Being Towed to Her Last Berth to be Broken Up.
The Téméraire was a Royal Navy three-decker ship of the line that like the rest of her kind and unlike the Victory, didn't survive the coming of steam (hence the sunset — for sail — and a flaming, smoke-belching tug out front).

The Téméraire is here (http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/art/cgfa/), a site I discovered when the web was new. It's been continually added to and the artwork rescanned as the technology improved.
It's an amazing site, with lots of surprises for me, like a 15th- or 16th-century Dutch painting of ice-skaters playing what looks like hockey.

Whats the little purple "E" next to the terminal? And the unix penguin?

The purple E is Emacs, Carbon Emacs specifically. The Linux penguin is TuxPaint, a toy paint program.

Here's my latest desktop. Pic was from a local Ferrari event, "Ferrari Spring Thaw" on April 13, 2008. I took it with my iPhone. It's a Ferrari 360, well out of my price range. Ha ha! Pretty car nevertheless, and there's nothing like the sound of a Ferrari engine. Enjoy!

The iPhone camera is good, if not exactly great. If you don't have a camera with you, it's actually quite good. I got some pretty good shots that day. There were lots of Ferraris, a couple Maseratis, an original Mini Cooper, and even a Lamborghini Diablo. The Diablo is an accquired taste.

Mine. I scanned the wallpaper from a puzzle box years ago. It was too big to scan completely, so I scanned it in two pieces and assembled them. I did this in Windows using Paint Shop Pro, a most excellent tool.
The artist is Ken Keeley and the work is called "Bayles Dock." It's in Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York. (There are only three places in NY: The City, Long Island, and Upstate.)
Enjoy!
