Ok so I was gonna ditch Colloquy since I figured I wouldn't use it anymore and lo and behold I came across some mention of an IRC chat channel for MacApper.
When you launch Colloquy, simply type in the server name field:
IRC.KRONO.NET
And the chatroom you want to join is:
#macapper
If this is not accurate anymore (the post (http://macapper.com/forums/announcement.php?f=18) was quite old), could someone in staff correct the info in this thread? Thank you.
I guess we'll need to say when someone is in chat. Maybe we could use this thread to give a holler and ask others to join?
I can't remember how to register my nick and a password though. Anyone knows?

Hmm. Maybe Colloquy doesn't support the krono.net server?
I'm lost...

I googled and Colloquy should work just fine.
An alternative IRC chat app would be X-Chat Aqua (http://sourceforge.net/projects/xchataqua/).

MHC...I don't remember who set that up and no one ever used it do your guess is as good as mine when it comes to why it isn't working.

I will check into it later and report back. Colloquy so far has worked with everything I have thrown at it.
Edit: I joined the server and then the room #macapper. I was of course the only one there and had full Operator also! :w00t:
This was using Colloquy.

I don't have irc access from here. A good time to go online? Sunday evenings work for me. It's really one of the few times on which I usually expect to be free. (Even then one Sunday a month I'm gone for an astronomy club meeting.)
MacHeadCase
05-29-2008, 10:40 AM
Sundays would be fine for me too. Let's see what others have to say.
But for sure, it'll be you and I, MO. Next Sunday right after dinner?

I seem to recall folks would get together around 7PM or 8PM eastern time. Pacific would be 4PM or 5PM. I'm usually good for 8PM, though occasionally I have to step away for kid duty, but that's temporary.
Hmmm... now I need to install chat programs. ^_^ Having just done a clean Leopard install, I only installed apps I'm using.

I know that for Kilted there is a five hour difference so if we choose 8 PM, it might be a bit stiff for him. I dunno, we'll have to see what he thinks about this.
But then again, for MaDDoG, there's a 14 hours difference so it would be Monday morning for him! :O

Hi MHC!
I've still not set up my IRC tools, and today I'm feeling awful (as in low grade fever et al). I promise I will get the IRC programs up and running so that I can try to do IRC next Sunday. I'm not even going to be online long this afternoon and evening.
(You may recall it took me some time to get IRC up and running in the past. When I reinstalled the system this time I didn't set them up.)
Have fun!

Server is -> irc.krono.net
Chatroom is -> #macapper

Well the forum is small. We try to make it a regular time on Sundays so everyone can drop in. When we're bigger, hopefully people will hang out there a bit more.
But now, with the active members number, I think we can't ask for more. Especially since not all of us hang out in chat all the time. I know I don't. I do drop in once in a while though but I don't stay on for long especially if the chatroom is empty. :)

Uhm I think I boobooed and I registered something and now it looks like you all have to register your nicks with your very own password or something. :crying:
But nevertheless it is best this way for security reasons, everyone should register their nick and password.
Here's how, I think, you need to do this (http://www.afterdawn.com/faq/software_problems/register_nick_with_nickserv_mirc.cfm#selected_item ):
Basically, the way it works is, you register your nickname with a password and an email address. Now everytime you come back to the network, you will be asked to identify yourself using a simple command. This will make sure that you hold on to your nickname and nobody steals it on you.
The command to register usually is...
/msg nickserv register PASSWORD EMAIL
You must replace PASSWORD with a password of your choice and EMAIL with a VALID email address. It must be valid as some networks like you to verify it exists by sending you an email. Once you have registered your nick, when you come back to the network you must identify yourself, you can do this with these commands..
/msg nickserv identify PASSWORD
OR
/nickserv identify PASSWORD (should work, does on most networks)
Replace password with the password that you used to register your nick. Now all you have to do is NOT forget your password.
And How to register an IRC-Nickname (http://linuxbasics.org/irc/how_to_register_an_irc-nickname):
Pick a name you can live with
"use /nick <newname>"
if it is not registered.
/msg nickserv help register gets you this:
-NickServ- Syntax: REGISTER <password>
-NickServ-
-NickServ- This enables you to register your nickname with a
-NickServ- password so only you can use it. Please try to
-NickServ- use obscure passwords that cannot be easily guessed.
-NickServ- Passwords *ARE* case sensitive. Once you have
-NickServ- registered a nickname, you can use the SET and
-NickServ- ACCESS commands to configure it.
-NickServ-
-NickServ- Please IDENTIFY yourself to nickserv when you
-NickServ- connect to the network. Many clients will allow you
-NickServ- to automate this function. If you don't IDENTIFY
-NickServ- to NickServ for a period of 60 days or more, your
-NickServ- nickname will be considered to be expired and it
-NickServ- may be dropped.
so as <newname> you would do
/msg nickserv register <password>
then everytime you log on irc you will do
/msg nickserv identify <password>

I had to do it last night. There was someone that refused to identify themselves, not that I'm Gestapo I just ask you know "Who are you?", "How'd you stumble upon us?" or "Can we help you?" anyone that curious about the forum or is here because of us or wants to ask how to join, etc. will say so, me thinks.
So every time I've asked so far they just left and I looked at my kick & ban button that I didn't get to use or hear, and I cried a little. So last night I asked, got no answer and left them a bit of time anyway to give me an answer... And then...

But, Frank's down so I wouldn't have made it anyway.
And I tried to set it up for MacApper one time before and I could NOT get it, so i'll have to reread up on that. lol.
