Ars posted yesterday an article on McAfee's second annual "Mapping the Mal Web" that gives a danger rating to web domains, Report: .hk TLD riskiest place to surf; .fi, .no, .jp safest (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080604-hk-domains-top-mcafees-list-of-the-riskiest-places-to-surf.html):

McAfee released its second annual "Mapping the Mal Web" report today, with updated information on which high-level domains are typically the least safe to surf. The company's results are based on a survey of 265 top-level domains, and includes both country-specific (.de, .uk, .tw) and general use (.info, .com, .net) domains.

The most dangerous domain to surf this year was Hong Kong (.hk); McAfee's SiteAdvisor classifies a full 19.2 percent of the websites under that domain as unsafe. That's quite a jump for the .hk domain, which previously ranked 28th on McAfee's 2007 list. China (.cn), took the number two spot, up from 11th last year, while the Philippines, Romania, and Russia all placed within the Top 10. At the opposite end of the list, Finland, Japan, Norway, and Colombia are among the safest domains, and collectively account for only a fraction of total malicious traffic.

The .info domain is ranked third on McAfee's risk assessment, while the popular .com domain ranks ninth. Web sites that offer ringtones and screen savers are also likely to be distribution points for spyware and malware, and the absolute number of such websites increased to 4.7 percent, up from 3.3 percent last year. The domain rankings saw a lot of significant change. The Philippines moved from 19th place in 2007 to fourth place in 2008, and Spain's overall risk level increased 91 percent. Tokelau fell from first place to 28th place, thanks to its decision to adopt new domain management policies. (McAfee, it must be noted, takes credit for spurring this discussion). ...

Now I'm sure Kilted will be happy with that one.

Boy does that document (http://us.mcafee.com/en-us/local/docs/Mapping_Mal_Web.pdf) take a long time to load. 1.5 MB, but at least three minutes :D
Don't they have a worthwhile server?

*Peter notices ".be" isn't the greatest, but isn't doing too bad either*
