420MB?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!
That's like TEN TIMES the legal limit for us with dial-up!!!!! lol.
HOW DO I EVEN SURVIVE IN THIS WORLD WITH HUGE DOWNLOADS?!

My rant:

We're actually looking into satellite internet, but it's SO expensive to start up!
$180 equipment rental fee!

Oh, and router, cords, airport cards (or a substitute) and all that music.

We've got

2PCs
2 iMac G3s
and my PowerMac, and i'm in the basement.
I'll have to be wireless.
Depending on where the whole modem/router setup is, the iMacs might have to be wireless too.
If it uses the good PC, all of them will have to be wireless.

Expensive!

The thing is, I gave away my router last year.
Didn't think i'd ever use it, but it's getting used daily at my aunt's house so i'm fine with that.

WHY IS IT SO DANG EXPENSIVE!?

candied apples? what the heck is a "candied apple"? i always thought it was just a different way ta say "carmel apple". like "soda" and "pop". taday i find out its an apple with a hard red candy coatin. is it cherry? strawberry? maybe fruit punch? ill probably never know.

jam... preserves... jelly... marmalade... thank god peanut butter (Peter Pan FTW) isnt so complicated.

Well, I figured that since according to the "waiting list" we won't get DSL until sometime in 2009, and we had a bunch of trees which obstructed our view of the southern sky (which have been cut down now), by the time we would get DSL that old Belkin router would be obsolete. I figured they'd have come out with WIRELESS XYZN that is 5,325,493,101,000 MB/S. lol.

I can't stand keeping everything.
I don't like clutter.
We still have the modem though....

I used to think the same about them. Later realized, though the consistency is the same, the "candied" are red-colored sticky sugar-coated and the "caramel" are actually caramel with brown/dark tan color.

I downloaded Firefox 3.

So I moved all the Firefox 2.0.0.14 files — the app, the folder in Applications Support and the plist — to a folder on the desktop and installed the new one.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

One of the extensions I can't live without is the Preferences Bar. I hate cookies. They are disease-carrying corporate cross-site tracking spiders. PrefBar helps break the tracking chain with very little effort. Cookie control is only a click away in Firefox, SeaMonkey and Mozilla 3.1 for System 9. (Click on the grey bar below — it's a thumbnail.)

http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/5169/peferencesbarlq2.th.jpg (http://img161.imageshack.us/my.php?image=peferencesbarlq2.jpg)

But PrefBar for Firefox 3 is bug-ridden. It knocks everything on the page way, way to the right, cutting off a quarter of the page and leaving a gap on the left with nothing in it. Some of the buttons on a previous version for Firefox 3 that I tried with a 3 beta a few weeks ago didn't work. PrefBar is getting worse, not better.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Another problem, more serious because this is intrinsic to the browser, not an extension, is the bookmarks file.

Firefox 3 can't find Firefox 2's bookmarks to import them, or any Mozilla bookmarks, for that matter. It claims to import Safari's, so I updated Safari's bookmarks from Firefox 2's Profile folder, then imported those into Firefox 3.

No go. It imported the few bookmarks I have outside the folders, but not the hundreds of bookmarks or the folders containing them.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I had to import them (not that it would) because:

Since before System X was a gleam in teh Steve's eye, I've been using the bookmarks file that originated in Netscape in my 6100 66 (maybe even my LC). The file moved to Mozilla for OS 9, and to the final Mozilla update for 9, which was Mozilla 3.1, then on to the Mozilla suite for OS X and finally to Firefox in all its iterations. The same file. THE SAME FILE!

I still have it in Mozilla 3.1 for 9, SeaMonkey (the updated Mozilla suite for X) and Firefox 2. I've made AppleScripts that drag the file from one browser to the other — even cross-platform — so all three always match and are always up to date.

And because Firefox and SeaMonkey read the file that was originally created in the System 9 version, none of the baggage at the top of the bookmarks — all the crud, including the ads for Firefox disguised as "helpful" bookmarks, and all the junk in the bookmarks bar, and "recent" sites — was excised. Just MY bookmarks. None of that canned crap from Mozilla written in indelible electrons.

Not so with Firefox 3. It won't read the bookmarks.html file (it will read its own bookmarks.html file, but not that one!), leaving only the crap at the top of the bookmarks and nothing else. You can see the difference with the two side by side. The canned crap takes up almost as much room as my old bookmarks alone — not that it makes much difference, since Firefox won't import them anyway. (Click on the thumbnail.) Thanks Google/Mozilla.

http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/4161/bookmarksvh0.th.jpg (http://img131.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bookmarksvh0.jpg)

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

So I trashed Firefox 3, secure-deleted it and reinstalled 2.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. [/rant]

Hi, iRye!

I don't, because it doesn't have mouse gestures, smooth scrolling (it claims it does but it doesn't), decent pipelining, and 20 other extensions I run with Firefox.

So Firefox (2) is better. :D

First off is the outsourced tech support. What the heck is worng with companies? Here's a well done cartoon about it that I agree with totally. http://www.illwillpress.com/tech.html [Explicit]

Secondly, what is with the car stickers that say in memory (insert name here) about? Most people plant a tree or something! http://wilddingos.com/ebay/vinyl/memory_of_cross1.gif
Seriously I dont get this. Is it like "Thanks for the life insurance money we got a BMW!! But to give you credit we slapped on a $10 sticker?"
Can someone explain this to me? There are hundreds over here ranging from people who were 2 all the way to 60. If I die throw me in a cheap wooden coffin and plant a tree to make up for it.

Hate it also. Use to love getting someone's computer and troubleshooting and getting it all fixed up for 'em again. That was in the days when I spent 1/3 of my time on my own machine keeping it tweaked and running at it's full potential.

Now that I have this MBP, have gotten spoiled with the lack of tweaking.

Travis, you could do what I do now. Actually, I try to get out of fixing those Win machines. But, it's hard to say no when it's a friend that already knows I can do it. I always let 'em know up front, this is done when I have time and I could have their machine for a week or so, depending on what it will take to get it fixed. And they know I won't charge 'em for doing it either. Maybe if I started charging, I wouldn't get asked.

Took this from craigslist.

Come live in a real honest-to-goodness s***hole. We take great pride in our inability to keep good tenants happy. Do you pay your rent on time every month? We will reward you by increasing it to the maximum allowable limit every year like clockwork. Love hot water for your morning shower? Who doesn't? Well, you won't find those kind of luxuries here. The water temperature is tepid at best. And if your bathtub stops draining, you'll be billed for the repair, even though that's illegal. Don’t worry when the ceiling leaks on sunny days. That’s the pipes above the ceiling that are leaking. All repairs will be made by unlicensed handymen found in the Home Depot parking lot. We will attempt to clean your stained couch cushions in our own laundry facility, right on the premises. We won’t do a very good job, though. What do you care? You live in a s***hole. Speaking of our laundry facility, please note that you will have a difficult time finding available washers & dryers. This is due to the fact that our on-site managers allow their various family members to do laundry when they make weekly visits. Even though you see air-conditioners in two other apartments, do not be fooled into thinking that you too may enjoy electrically cooled rooms. Should you decide to install one in your unit, you will find an eviction notice taped to your front door. We also like to snoop around your apartment once a month under the guise of smoke alarm checks. Enjoy the beautiful pool--but only during the week. Here's the schedule: Every Saturday at 10 AM the gardener uses his leaf blower to fill the pool with leaves & debris. It remains this way until the pool cleaner comes by on Monday. Perfect for kids that don’t yet have health problems.
The neighborhood gang activity keeps things lively as well. The dealers are all within walking distance. Convenient for drug users who are fed up with high gas prices. Enjoy real culture with vibrant artists ‘tagging’ their area. See that broken glass on the curb? That’s where a local artist liberated the contents of a car the night before. It’s OK, the owner needed a new stereo with iPod hook-ups anyway. Win-win.

We can’t imagine why this apartment has been vacant for over six months.

Large 2 bedroom 1 bath, newly painted, vertical blinds, ceiling fan, new appliances, pool, gated parking, new roof, laundry facilities, no pets, one year lease. Near Amoeba music, Arclight theaters, 24 hour fitness, The LA Film School, Sunset & Highland.

But hey, it could bring some good things.
If my mom decides to get a new computer, I could harvest her old one. That means i'll be looking at a 80GB hard drive. Oh yeah.
That also means my dad might be looking at doubling his ram, maybe a new video card. (His hasn't worked right from day one. If you shut his PC off and turn it back on it displays no video for at least an hour.)

But.....it could be just a power supply, so maybe she won't.
She doesn't know that though.
Nor do I actually. For all I know the motherboard could be fried.

If Frank's logic board has a problem, I don't know what i'm going to do with it. No internet=No Point.
I'll probably give it to my cousin. His PC died a couple months ago. He's only 9 so it'll do him well for a while.

Hopefully it's not that major though.

Well, times have changed. When you drop out of high school, it's no longer the end of the world. You can go back and get your diploma anytime with these programs they have now, can't you?

And it's not just our generation which is getting fatter and lazier. It's the whole world.

And come on now, army recruitment is down?! WELL DUH. I don't blame our generation for not wanting to join the army. Personally, i'd want to make sure that i'm not risking my life for something that currently doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

That's all just my opinions though.
But it's not just OUR generation gone soft. What generation hasn't?!

CBS evening news:

Their arguments are totally one sided.
They're talking about how our generation is so "soft."
Dropout rates are higher than ever, we're getting fatter and lazier, and army recruits are down.

But it's not just OUR generation gone soft. What generation hasn't?!

People have complained about every generation. I have seen a lot of people from the previous generation who are overweight and lazy. And when you think about it are we not a product of our past or of our environments? Just some grumpy person. CBS has done this before saying that we are a lazy generation. I dont think me working for $14 an hour, 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, and getting yelled at for drinking water in 110 degree weather makes me lazy. 100 other people from my generation worked there as well doing the same job. But that was my last job. It ticks me off when someone sees one bad apple and blames a whole generation. We wouldn't be so fat had the previous generations looked into food and diet better. It all has to do with how you are raised. My parents wouldn't let me get away with half the stuff kids are doing now. I thank them for that too.

Long story short <bleep> CBS.

Curse you, chronic dry eye.

You make wearing contacts so difficult.
If only I had some clear eyes tears, but no I only have clear eyes seasonal relief, which isn't nearly as good.

:crying:

That's what my eyes look like!
So dry, they try to compensate and they end up really watery....

Good idea. We have one on the server at work and one on each of the standalone pc's. I have one at home as well. Stops those nasty power spikes and generally filters the power.

MY DAD DOES NOT RECOGNIZE ANYONES EFFORTS!

Today I cleaned my Dad's SUV top to bottom, I received nothing more than a couple disgruntled "thanks". I did an excellent job, and I know it won't be kept. It took me 4 hours.

I've been doing everything to make our flight out east in a couple of weeks very pleasant and comfortable for him, from trying to pick the best seats to simply selecting the flights at the best times for his work schedule.

He's a very tall person, and he needs a big car to be remotely comfortable. Not a big car, but a tall one. We originally had a Ford Focus - not good, not good at all for him. I spent 1,2,3,4 hours to try and find him a bigger car, and it was only after calling and browsing repeatedly, I came across a HUGE corporate booking cancellation. I jumped on it and told my dad. Instead of a thanks for finding him a bigger car that actually saved him money, all I got was a indignant grumble of "Good."

Is it selfish or self-centred of me to think that i'm not getting much recognition for my efforts? He never tells my mom she's pretty, he never recognizes anyone's efforts except his own. It makes me feel like I haven't done a good job even though my mom reassures me I have because she's so friendly.

i like camino better than safari 3.1.1. :) i installed 3.1.1 and the browser would just hang. so i went to my library-> caches -> metadata -> safari and emptied the history and stuff in there. and unistalled and re-installed safari. and it works. but now i have been using camino. and i like the little booger! i have the tabs working so they look like safari. that was the only thing that bugged me. was how the tabs originally looked. but hey. i fixed it  i hope you guys decide to give camino a try over safari or firefox. maybe i'll try shiira even....

So true.
It seems like nobody obeys them anyways.
It's convenient having a sister who lives in Indiana who comes up to Michigan on the 4th of July.
If anyone asks, I was held at gunpoint when I said that.

I'm sick of fixing my parent's PCs!
UGH!

Fixing my mom's is one thing, because she can't do that stuff herself and my dad would take months if ever to help her.

I don't want to fix my dad's. I mean, he knows how to do that. He can do it himself. I'm not being selfish, but every time I tell him
YOU
NEED
MORE
RAM.
YOU
NEED
A
NEW
VIDEO
CARD.

Has he bought either? No, yet he still asks me to fix his modem.
I don't like working on a PC loaded with crap with very little ram. It's slow. I don't like slow.
I don't like working on a PC that you can't shut down without waiting an hour or more to turn it back on because the video card is bad.
I don't like looking at his card reader when dust is visibly pouring out of it from the outside.

He knows what he should do, but he doesn't feel like it. Why should I bother?

He wants me to look at his Pismo too. It's not finding his flash drive.

It's because his flash drive is an el cheapo from meijer. Mine didn't work right either and it's the same kind.

I told him
BUY
A
COPY
OF
10.3
IF
HE
WANTS
OSX.

Has he? No. So I went out of my way to clone the hard drive from my iBook. Took forever. Not something iwanted to do.

I wouldn't have such a big problem with helping him out occasionally if it actually WORKED RIGHT.

He needs to delete all his programs and games nobody's used in a year.
He needs to upgrade his ram. 512 was fine 4 years ago. Now....not so much, not if you're going to have all that kind of crap on it.
He needs to fix his aol settings.

I'm just killing an hour before I can to turn it back on to try to get it to recognize a modem because his got fried...because he didn't have a surge protector.

I really screwed up... I still do not have my PS3. It's in Calgary. My Dad said he could go pick it up today. He always does it after work so I assumed that was the case.

I wanted to see if the other person at Purolator who told me Sony packages could only have 1 delivery attempt. Sony said otherwise. I called Purolator and had them redeliver it tomorrow. Well, less that and more of a confirming it will be delivered tomorrow. I actually put in a request on Friday that it be delivered monday but it never came monday or today, tuesday. apparently it's wayy in the back where it can't be reached. it's purolators fault, but apparently my dad is "less than impressed" with me. grr.

PC's suck. so. much.

Why can't they be simpler? If you're trying to install new hardware, why can't they just accept it and use it properly instead of having problems? I know that sounds stupid but I don't care. Everything is overcomplicated, especially in MS-DOS. Ooh, how I hate DOS. If you don't know the exact name and location of the file you are looking for, guess what? You're out of luck! GRRRRRRRRRR.
