Android Apps For Tablets Greatly Over-Credited By Apple

During the iPad 2 event back in February, Steve Jobs gave an interesting stat on the amount applications dedicated for Android tablet devices. In his presentation, he spoke on where the App Store stands among other platforms when involving tablet computers. Steve mentioned that the App Store is now home to over 350,000 applications, 65,000+ of which are tailored for the iPad, which is all-in-fact true. However, he said that the Android Marketplace houses somewhere around 100 apps.

“That compares to our competitors, who are trying to launch these days with at most 100 apps. And I think we’re being a little generous here. This is a huge advantage we have,”

Apple Looking Into Scrollable Menu And Toolbar

In a rather interesting patent application, Apple is looking to making menus and toolbars scrollable. The idea is to accommodate the many tools that some developers implement into their applications. This, in turn, will allow for multiple options to be displayed, eliminating the need for developers to consolidate their options.

Particularly, Apple states that the idea can be utilized in a small selection window where options can be scrolled through without having to resize the window to see the other options or having a floating tools bar with all the options presented on. Based on the images provided from the patent, seems like Cupertino would apply it to both Mac OS and iOS.

This week, Apple released a new build to the Mac OS 10.6.5 development. Build 10H555 was release to a section of the their development community for testing, following the same two week release of the previous build.

Like the last build, there has been no mention of known issues with the software from Apple. Also, the build asks users to concentrate their testing on printing, QuickTime, Time Machine, graphics and USB devices. With Apple again not posting any known issues with the software, OS 10.6.5 seems to be on its way from earning the golden-master label and hit Apple servers for a public release.

Revamped Apple TV Update/Apple and Futuretap Resolve Issues With Patent Dispute

Engadget seems to have the word on the Apple TV front. Apparently, Apple is planning on taking the “Apple” from the name of their hobbyist project and replacing it with the ubiquitous “i” branding that it’s famously known and credited for. On top of that, the new development won’t be able to playback 1080i or 1080p high definition video. Also, the new software peddling this development is said to run applications and even get it’s own section in the iTunes Store.

Apple Introduces App Store Volume Purchasing/Adobe’s Flash Hardware-Accelerated

Education is still getting that bang-for-their-buck whenever they are dealing with Apple. Is was pointed out the other day that Apple has changed some of the terms in the developer agreement allowing bulk education purchases to receive up to a 50% discount on the App Store. Educational institutions can receive a voucher from the Apple Store for Education in $100, $500, $1,000, $1,500 and $10,000 denominations that would be sent by mail from Apple and redeemed right inside the App Store application (like iTunes gift cards) through a Program Facilitator.

Keynote on iPad

Well the iPad is out and its hit a positive with the public, a huge positive that is. One of the most admired applications on the iPad would have to be the iWork suite. Keynote (Apple’s presentation software for the Mac and now the iPad) performs just as beautifully as it’s Mac OS X counterpart on the iPad. The app has everything you need to create presentations that will blow away your viewers. All the same Apple-designed templets, custom made graphics, aesthetically pleasing animation, effects and transition exist in Keynote on the iPad. With just a few taps, you can select one of the presets that Apple has provided and use them as a beginning point for your creation.

Apple Brings Multitask to iPhone OS 4

Probably the most anticipated feature in the iPhone OS would have to be for the ability for third party application to perform their functions in the background. The iPhone has always been capable of this, but Apple limited it to their use only, that is, until they figured out a way to avoid the perils of BPs (Background Processes) in which two of the biggest issues are power and CPU consumption. However (in typical Apple fashion), the guys in Cupertino have figured out a way to deliver background functions to third-party application while evading the issues that it brings to mobile devices, and they have brought it home in iPhone OS 4.0.

They offer a two week free trail of the service and the function of the app falls under that trail period.
