Apple Still Looking to Revamp Maps Application
Cupertino still has plans to remodel the Maps application on the iOS platform. Recently, Apple has posted a new job opening searching for a maps developer who can “radically improve” the Maps application and other geolocation features.
“Come work for the team that revolutionized the mobile technology industry as it continues define what computing looks like in a post-PC era. The Maps team is looking for an exceptional developer to join us in our mission to radically improve how people interact with maps and location-based services.”
iOS 4.3.1 Around the Corner
The Boy Genius Report is chiming in that Apple is scheduling to release the next installment of iOS in the next two weeks. The update is said to address a number of bugs in the 4.3 software, including that issue that lags the Springboard animation when launching apps.
“Here are the changes from iOS 4.3:
- Baseband updates for the 3GS and iPad (original)
- Fixed memory hang that results in memory corruption when reading large files from USIM filesystem
- Fixed problem with NTLM authentication in apps and on websites
Software Fix To Address Flickering Apple TV
There has been some complaint of flickering displays on certain television sets when using the Apple TV. Our friends over at AppleInsider has been informed that Cupertino is planning to release a software fix to remedy the issue.
“An Apple support representative has confirmed that Apple is aware of the issues caused by the latest update to the Apple TV, software version 4.2, AppleInsider has learned. The Cupertino, Calif., company is said to be working on a fix that will address the screen flickering problems for a small number of users.”
Apple Seeds Mac OS X 10.6.7 to Developers
Cupertino has seeded Mac OS X 10.6.7 to developers for testing. This update clocked in just six days after the previous build.
Just as the other build, Apple continues to report that the build has no issue and developers focus on graphics, Safari, App Store, AirPort, Bonjour, and SMB.
Completion of the desktop software seems like its wrapping up as the last few seeds are relative the same size and the spread between the beta releases are practically the same for each release. This will be recorded as the eighth installment of 10.6.7 since the beta started to be released back in late January.
MobileMe Revamp Is Coming in April?
Word has gotten out to iLounge that Cupertino is planning to unveil the remodel version of MobileMe this April. On top of that, it has been mentioned that the new revamped service will be cloud-based and allow users to store all of the content on their Apple mobile devices for back up such as music, movies, photo, contacts, and a number of other things mentioned that can be accessed on demand by the user.
Apple Releases Java Update for Leopard and Snow Leopard
Apple this week released a pair of Java updates for both Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard. The update administers patches that remedies some vulnerabilities in the software as well as increasing reliability and compatibility of the software.

Apple To Hold Event For iOS 5 And MobileMe Remodel?
We have been hearing some rumors that Apple intends on holding an event that will focus on the next major release of the iOS series, iOS 5. Along with that rumor, we have been hearing that Cupertino will also be showcasing the remodel version of MobileMe. A MobileMe revamp has been the topic of discussion on the Net, speculating that Apple will present the service with advanced syncing capabilities and make it free of charge to use.
Apple Releases First Developer Preview of Mac OS X Lion. New Features
There has been rumors going around the Web stating that Apple is planning to do a major overhaul in the interface of Mac OS X for the next major installment, Lion. With the introduction of the new MacBook Pros and Thunderbolt, otherwise known as Light Peak, Apple has also released the first developer preview of Mac OS X Lion entailing features that were not seen last year when Cupertino gave a demo of the product in it’s beginning stages.
AT&T Allows Hotspots with iOS 4.3
One of the most talked about features that was presented in the revealing of the Verizon iPhone was the ability of the iOS software to enable the iPhone to become a Wi-Fi hotspot, connecting up to five Wi-Fi devices at once to use the iPhone data connection . Since then, many have been asking will other carriers, more specifically AT&T in the US, will allow the hotspot function to operate on their network.
Apple’s New App Review Guidelines
With the announcement of the in-app subscription, Apple also introduced new guidelines for applications being submitted for review by the App Review Team. Along with provisions made to accommodate the new in-app subscription function, Cupertino also laid out several new guidelines. The most highlighted is one that helps Apple crack down on developers who try to “cheat the system”. The new language is displayed as a bullet point in the introduction of the document as a point stressed by Apple.
