Apple Issues Updates For iWork On iPad

Apple has issued updates for the iWork suite, Pages, Keynote and Numbers, on the iPad. The new firmware addresses issues and adds some new features to the collections of office software.

Apple Acquires Siri

Apple has purchased a company called Siri who specializes in voice operated software. The company currently has a free application on the App Store that corresponds with the name of the group and offers the ability for end-users to acquire different information and complete different tasks on their iPhones simply by speaking the request. News of Apple acquiring the company made way to Robert Scoble. The Silicon Valley Insider got wind of the purchase and then contacted a representative of Siri who confirmed the acquisition by Apple. A statement was later given by a Siri investor and board member to the Wall Street Journal stating that the Apple offer was a “no-brainer.”

Apple and Google may be friends turned competitive rivals, but the two do share many views on certain aspects. One that stands out the most is the new HTML5 standard. Apple and Google believe that HTML5 is the best way for in-depth visual content to be viewed on the Internet. Implementation of the standard will rule out the current technology Flash by Adobe. Along with Apple and Google, which Google is in the process of converting all of their services such as YouTube to HTML5 and Apple’s website completely running on the tech, many other groups have followed the movement and began making the switch. CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, CNN, ESPN, CW Network (formerly UPN), CNET, Flickr, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Nike and Time are just a few of the groups making the switch.

Given the recent leak of the lost iPhone prototype, it should be pretty obvious that Apple will be debuting a front-facing camera in the next generation iPhone that will be most likely to be introduced at the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) Apple hosts every year around June. What adds more fuel to that fire of truth is the recent discovery of prompts and messages designed for video conferencing within the new beta software. Apple has left breadcrumbs of the feature being inducted into the next iPhone in past software releases and the new SDK beta join that collection of software.

Wireless iPhone OS Sync Application Submitted to the App Store

Recently founded on the YouTube, A developer demonstrates an application that he has spawned that allows iPhone OS devices to sync wirelessly with iTunes over Wi-Fi. Naturally bestowed the name Wi-Fi Sync, the application can be downloaded on any iPhone OS device through the App Store and then synced with your iTunes on Mac or coming soon to a PC near you when the end-user downloads an application to their machine that enables the function. When syncing the device for the first time ever on a given machine, it requires you to pair the device with the computer that the desktop application is installed on. Afterwards, the pairing process is no longer necessary and the device will sync automatically when the application is launched.

Apple Brings Multitask to iPhone OS 4

Probably the most anticipated feature in the iPhone OS would have to be for the ability for third party application to perform their functions in the background. The iPhone has always been capable of this, but Apple limited it to their use only, that is, until they figured out a way to avoid the perils of BPs (Background Processes) in which two of the biggest issues are power and CPU consumption. However (in typical Apple fashion), the guys in Cupertino have figured out a way to deliver background functions to third-party application while evading the issues that it brings to mobile devices, and they have brought it home in iPhone OS 4.0.

iPhone OS 4 Bringing Exposé-like Multitasking

AppleInsider chimed in with some information from people who are familiar with the Mac OS and iPhone OS on how Apples latest implementation of the iPhone firmware will display features like that of Exposé of the Mac OS platform to manage multiple third-party applications being ran concurrently on the  system. Based on the information that it has received from its source, the site states that the function would be invoked by pressing the Home button on the iPhone twice which will then bring up a collection of icons that represent the current running applications that the user can choose from.
